- It is an outpatient procedure

For a few weeks after the surgery, you will feel a bit of awkwardness in the mouth. However, you should avoid prodding at implant with your tongue or fingers. It will cause it to shift out of position, and it may fall off.
- The surgery could be canceled
During the examination before the surgery, the doctor may come upon some facts that force him or her to cancel the surgery. For instance, he may notice telltale signs of diabetes in the patient before surgery, which will force a cancellation. Besides that, if he notices a sign of infection in neighboring teeth, he could cancel the operation.
- You will be given a special diet guideline for the healing period
After the implant is in place, the doctor will probably give you a detailed guide on foods you should avoid. For instance, crunchy food will definitely be on the list. Anything that could affect your gums’ ability to heal will also be excluded. For instance, foods rich in sugars and acids may be excluded from your menu for a few weeks.
- Checkups are recommended
After the implant is in place, you will need to go for a few regular check-ups. These are done to confirm that the implant is not shifting position. Besides that, it helps the doctor to see if the implant is having an adverse reaction on the patient. Although rare, the implant can refuse to fuse with the bone.
