The 52 Week Challenge

Inspiration comes in many forms. It’s a personal matter. Prayer, songs, movies, stories, personal experiences can all drive us to make changes. As I start a new decade of life I find myself increasingly drawn to things and people that compel me to Live Life differently. This hunger for Inspiration and its effect has motivated me to start my own 52 week challenge.

One full year of accomplishing something each week that I want to do. Some of these challenges seem trivial, some significant. Some just for the heck of it. I will be posting my progress and hopefully influence you to make changes of your own.

As you may have already figured out by my avatar, I love movies. A recent Film I enjoyed is a documentary by a young Chicago film maker named Owen Lowery. It documents Owen’s struggles and features some of the activities he decided to do over the course of a year. The film has been awarded the Documentary Prize at the VisionFest Film Festival in New York. At first glance the title of the documentary seems foreboding. “An Alternative to Slitting Your Wrist”.  While it deals with the realities of mental illness and at times is a bit dark in atmosphere, the film has been added to my inspiration list. If Owen, a twenty something young man can face his demons and make a sincere effort to LIVE LIFE, then why cannot I, a middle aged man with nearly double the life experience make at least the same effort.

So the journey begins. 52 weeks of living life. As I am not in a financial position to do nearly anything on my so called Bucket List (another great movie) I have decided, like Owen to keep it simple yet no less profound. At least to me.

I have received quite a number of requests for my “movie list” so before I go here is a very partial list (with IMDB links). The list is incredibly eclectic so as you browse remember, these are movies that inspire or invoke some kind of motivation to ME. Some of them you may agree with readily others you won’t have a clue as to why they would affect me so. As I said before, inspiration is personal. The key here is to make your OWN list, watch them and take action on the feelings they instill in you.
