Introducing Emma And How She Can Help You

Hello all, my name is Emma Coleman from Phoenix Mobile Sports Therapies. I am fairly new to You Massage Therapy, Southampton and would like to take an opportunity to introduce myself and let you have an insight in to how I got here and what I can do to help you get back to feeling better.

Emma Coleman

I am qualified Sports and Remedial Massage therapist, Sports therapist, Sports exercise and fitness first aider; I am also currently a Physiotherapy student at the University of Southampton.

My background is in the Armed forces and I served 15 years as a Vehicle Mechanic and carried out deployments to Afghanistan, Kenya and Sierra Leone. During my time serving in the Army I trained as a Sports therapist and Archery Coach. As a coach I delivered training sessions to personnel recovering from mild traumatic brain injuries such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder – PTSD.

Sports have always been a huge part of my life having been a competitive archer representing the Army at competitions, representing REME at Football and Hockey, and more recently, playing rugby for the Southampton University Ladies Rugby Team. I now support the team as Pitch Side first aid for the first team.

Treatments offered by Emma

Below is some information on the treatments I can offer:

  • Sports and Remedial Massage

This is a group of massage techniques delivered to the body’s soft tissues. It aims to remove muscular tension, improve circulation, stretch muscles and to break down unwanted adhesions between the soft tissues.

The methods used are Soft tissue release (STR), Myofascial release (MFR), Deep tissue massage (DT), Muscle energy techniques (MET) and Trigger pointing (TP).

Even though this category of massage therapy is called sports massage it is beneficial for all individuals who find they are in discomfort, not just for those who are sporty. If you find yourself with aches and pains from everyday life, recovering from and preventing injuries or just having done a bit too much at the gym, work or at home, a sports or remedial massage will help you get balance back into your body by helping to work away the stress and tension in muscles, helping to relieve discomfort.

  •  Sports Therapy

Sports Therapy is great to help you recover from injury (rehab), increase mobility, build strength and make postural changes. The therapy is about working with you to achieve your goals through exercise to build strength, flexibility, endurance and confidence in exercise. If you have been out of exercise for a while or have noticed that you are getting aches and pains, this therapy will help bring structural balance to your musculoskeletal system.

Sports therapy aims to educate individuals in exercise and rehabilitate following injury or operation, but is equally applicable for those who just want to learn some exercises they can do at home or place of comfort.
