Exercise This Summer to Lower Your Risk of Heart Disease

This summer you should start exercising if you haven’t already, as regular Exercise is one of the best ways to lower your risk of Heart Disease. Exercising is great for your cardiovascular system, and aerobic exercise in particular will keep you feeling great and lower your weight and cholesterol levels.

If you haven’t exercised in a while you should check with your doctor before starting; it can be dangerous for some people to just jump right into working out. Most people, however, can start working out right away without having to worry, and in most cases you will be fine if you just scale it up based on the amount of weight you can lift at the start.

Exercise strengthens the heart

The Heart has to be exercised like the other muscles of your body or it will start to wear down faster than it should. Muscles that are used regularly become stronger and muscles that are not used as often are weakened.

Your heart is always being used of course, but when you exercise it will strengthen the muscle tissue of the heart which in turn allows it to pump more blood each beat and improves the flexibility and the strength of the blood vessels. Exercise also lowers your blood pressure in the long term.

The longer sedentary time that you have the greater your risk of heart disease

Getting up and getting out is very important when you have a sedentary lifestyle. The more time that you spend at a desk or sitting down the more that you will need to be exercising. Studies have shown that by adding more physical activity into your daily routine you can reduce your risk of heart disease tremendously.

People who spend more than 23 hours per week being sedentary have a 64 percent higher chance of dying from heart disease compared to people who spend under 11 hours. With this much of a significant difference, it is important to include regular exercise into your schedule. Almost every type of physical activity can be good, and you should aim for 30 to 60 minutes of exercise at least three days per week.
