The 4 Steps of Facial Skin Care

Tags: skin
Facial Skin is very thin and prone to get easily irritated by environmental changes (exposure to heat, cold, wind, sun) or lifestyle changes (exercise and diet habits).  If you want to have a healthy and beautiful skin you need to care for it on a daily basis.

Even the most beautiful woman will look dull with an unhealthy facial skin. No matter what your skin type is you can have a beautiful skin if you care after it , use the right products and eat healthy.Facial skin is kind of hard to hide, it is the first thing everyone notices. A good looking face is the reflection of inner health.

Regular skin care is essential but using unhealthy products can deplete the healthy protective barrier of your skin and becomes more sensitive to allergens and irritants. So try to go for the natural products and home made cosmetics.

“Everything you eat becomes a part of not only your inner being, but the outer fabric of your body as well. The healthier the foods are that you consume, the better your skin will look.” Samantha Heller, MS, RD

1. Cleansing The Skin

The pores of your skin can block from sweat, make-up and dirt. This can lead to acne, blackhead and white-head formation. Therefore cleansing  is essential to avoid cloged pores and other skin problems. It is advisable not to wash your face with chloride water! If you use tap water it is better to boil it first and add some natural tea or fragrance to it than let it cool down.

Lukewarm water is the best when you are on the run but if you have more time you can alternate warm and lukewarm spalshes of water/tea to clean, revitalize and equilibrate your skins acid- alkaline balance. The water shouldn't be too hot or too cold as it can result in broken  capillaries.

Use a natural cleanser at least in the morning -as toxins are exerted through the skin while you sleep-  and before going to sleep - to get rid of impurities and make-up leftovers. Choose a creamy cleanser if you have sensitive or dry skin and a clear cleanser if you have oily or normal skin.

2. Toning The Skin

Toning your skin on a daily basis will make it look fresh and healthy . Toning improves blood circulation and revitalizes your skin. It tightens up skin and closes up the skin pores. It doesn't actually close pores it rather causes a mild irritation and swelling of the skin which makes the pores less visible. They are also used to remove the last traces of oil and to stimulate the blood supply of the face.

It can be applyied in two ways : for irritated skin moisten cotton wool with skin toning lotion and pat gently on the cheeks, chin and neck. If you have a tired, dry skin it is better moisten your hand and to apply it with gentle slapping movements to stimulate blood circulation.

There are two types of toners : alcohol based and herbs based skin toners. Toners for dry and sensitive skin must be definitely alcohol-free as alcohol dries off skin. If your skin is irritated or has any type of skin condition try to skip toning until your skin gets better.

3. Exfoliating and Scrubbing The Skin

Exfoliating basically means the removal of dead  cells from the upper layer of the skin. Dead skin cells make the skin look dull and take away  the natural fresh glow of the skin. Moreover they clog the pores and lead to acne appearance and blackhead formation.  A new layer of skin is generated every 2 to four weeks. The younger skin that surfaces will be beautiful and glowing and your skin will be able to breath.

The exfoliating cleanser should be rubbed gently to your face. Use a product that has tiny scrubs. Big grains will tear the sensitive young skin and do more harm than good. Scrub the exfoliating cleanser over your face with circular movements than rinse the skin thoroughly. Wipe your face with a warm wet cloth to remove all dead skin residues.

4. Moisturizing The Skin

A good moisturizer is a must for every skin type to keep it soft and supple. If you have an oily skin you might not need it every day, but certain weather and lifestyle conditions might cause the skin to loose moist and oil.

There are two types of moisturizers : water-based and oil-based. So for oily skin use a water based moisturiser when needed. Oil-based moisturisers trap water better in the layers of the skin so they are advisable for dry skin types.
