Don't Ignore Tooth Pain: Know the Right Treatment Options

Tooth Pain or a toothache is one of the most uncomfortable and persistent types of pain known to man. It affects how you eat, how you speak, and can even affect how you sleep. Getting to the root of the problem often starts with identifying what type of Tooth Pain you are actually dealing with. Toothaches can have a variety of causes and the treatment approaches for each may vary.

Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity is often caused by the enamel of the teeth being gradually worn away. Your teeth can be overly sensitive to hot or extremely sensitive to cold. This kind of sensitivity can also be the result of small cracks in the teeth.

While there are many kinds of toothpaste on the market that are formulated to help control sensitivity, more severe cases may require root canals, crowns, or an extraction of the tooth.

Deep Throbbing Pain

Deep throbbing pain can be the result of an infection or abscess that has worked its way from the gums deep into the nerve of the tooth.

While an infection of the gums can be treated with antibiotics, a root canal or an extraction may be the best way to deal with a severely infected tooth. A root canal will remove the infection and the internal portion of the tooth where the infection was located. A visit to the dentist will determine the cause and the right plan of action.

Dull Tooth Pain

Dull tooth pain can be the result of your wisdom teeth starting to come in. It can also mean that food particles are stuck between your teeth, forcing them apart.

Brush and floss your teeth regularly to keep food particles from becoming a problem. An annual visit to your dentist will help you determine when your wisdom teeth will begin to appear.

Visit your dentist at the first sign of tooth pain. Addressing the problem in its earliest stages will prevent it from causing severe tooth pain and discomfort. Maintain your yearly checkups and you will learn when changes start to occur that may cause you problems.
