Synthetic pest control solutions contain chemicals might be successful at killing pests, but only at the cost of your well-being.  Exposure to pesticides  and the toxins in them can be harmful to living beings. Pesticide chemicals can cause nausea, dizziness and disorders to the reproductive system. These pesticides may kill everything in their path and can have an effect on the living beings outside the targeted areas as well.

What if we told you that implementing these natural methods of pest-control involved using ingredients/substances that you can easily find in your own home; and that they’re effective as hell! Lemongrass

Lemongrass is antifungal, insecticidal, and has anti-inflammatory properties that make it a must have essential! Lemongrass has a sweet  and refreshing smell to it. Some insects find it difficult to stand the smell of lemongrass. Hence, having lemongrass in your house is a great way to ward off insects. Lemongrass is also effective in repelling flea, flies and mosquitos. Add about 25 drops of lemongrass oil to half a cup of hot water. Pour this into a spray bottle and spray it on the doors, windows, and infested surfaces.

Neem Oil

Neem Oil is being used as a pest repellant for decades together. Neem oil is a strong pest repellent and when sprayed on plants,  is effective in bringing down insect feeding by interfering with their hormone systems. Neem oil is non-toxic to birds, fish, bees and wildlife and does not have any adverse effects on humans.

Peppermint Oil

Dab some peppermint oil onto cotton balls or cotton pads and place in your house; in those corners where insects, pests, mosquitos, mice are more likely to hide. You will see the results within no time. You could also add four to five drops of the oil and spray it on plants to get rid of aphids.

Coffee Grounds

Pour used, fine coffee grounds into any still water body near your house i.e ponds, puddles or somewhere in the backyard; or you could simply keep them outdoors. Coffee grounds are mosquito repellents because of their strong smell. Pouring them into water bodies, make them uninhabitable for mosquitos and will also kill dry larvae.

Vinegar

Slugs, moths, ants are some of the many garden pests that vinegar can ward off. Mix water and vinegar in the ratio of 1:3 and add a little bit of detergent to it. Spray this in your garden to keep the pests away! However, you must avoid spraying the solution directly on plants and veggies, and could spray it around the garden’s perimeter.

Garlic

Garlic is an effective barrier that keeps the pests away! Right from mosquitoes to potato beetles, garlic is a strong repellent. Grind some garlic with water and apply the paste at places where pests are prone to enter. You can see the results immediately!

MInt and Basil

Plant mint and basil around doorways and under windows. These plants repel flies even as they add sweet scents that we human enjoy.
