Top Tools to Care for Your Braces

Maintaining good oral hygiene is very important if you are wearing Braces. Without proper care, food particles can get caught between your brackets and plaque starts accumulating on your Teeth, which can lead to gum disease and tooth decay. Your braces are an expensive investment and you obviously want to protect them from damage. Therefore, regular cleaning and maintenance is a must.

Unfortunately, it can be difficult to keep your teeth clean while wearing braces. Brackets, wires, bands, and ligatures—braces have a lot of delicate parts, and it can be tricky to clean around them. Luckily, there is a variety of tools you can use to ensure proper cleaning.

Here are some useful tools for brace care:

Superfloss

Regular floss might not be able to pass through the wire or clean your upper gums properly. Superfloss is an alternative method of flossing without damaging your braces. A superfloss is a piece of floss with a plastic threader at one end. You thread the floss and pass it through your teeth from the top down.

The superfloss is thin and long, making it easy to maneuver around the wire and clean the spaces between your teeth. It also helps to remove plaque buildup along the gumline.

Electric toothbrush

A regular toothbrush cannot always clean properly around the wire and the brackets. It can also damage the delicate hardware of the braces if you brush too aggressively. So you might want to consider an Electric Toothbrush instead.

An electric toothbrush moves gently across the teeth and around the braces. It removes dirt and plaque from the teeth and gums without damaging the wire or brackets. The heads works on cleaning your teeth as you move the brush around. Its gentle, oscillating motion is actually beneficial for gum health.

When out buying an electric toothbrush, look for one with very soft bristles for maximum comfort and protection of your teeth.

Water flosser

A water flosser does not rely on a floss for cleaning. Instead, it uses water pressure to dislodge plaque, debris and bacteria from your gums and teeth. The device looks like an electric toothbrush and is attached to a water dispenser. The flosser exerts water pressure on your teeth, effectively removing particles and cleaning the teeth and gums.

This method is easier than flossing and helps to clean very remote spaces where a toothbrush and a string floss can’t reach. The water flosser also massages your gums as it moves gently across them, keeping them strong and healthy.

Proxy brush

A proxy brush is designed to clean spaces between the necks of your teeth. Its head is compact and triangular, able to reach under the wire of your braces. The device can be used for both brushing and flossing. Its small size means that it can clean not just the teeth, but the wire as well. It can also reach the sides of the brackets which are obscured by the wire.

These are the top tools that help you clean your teeth while preventing your braces from damage. You can use any one or more as per your dentist’s recommendation.
