Acupuncture Compared To An Acupuncturist (TCM)

Acupuncture and an Acupuncturist? what is the difference?

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine ( TCM ) is a style of  Chinese Medicine that involves Acupuncture, acupressure, herbal medicines etc. Those who studied this in its entirety are licensed and accredited to use the title of Acupuncturist or Doctor of TCM and can thereby bill and give receipts for acupuncture treatments.

Most Massage therapists, chiropractors and physiotherapists that incorporate acupuncture into their practice do so because they have studied a course and have been certified allowing them to integrate it into their primary health treatments as a complimentary approach to healing.  Unless these providers are TCM practitioners, they can add the acupuncture to your treatment but cannot bill or give receipts stating acupuncture. Also, unless the practitioner is TCM, therapists such as massage therapists, physiotherapists and chiropractors are not trained to treat medical aliments or diseases, such as Bronchitis, asthma, quitting smoking etc with acupuncture. These types of concerns are to be treated and discussed with a TCM practitioner.  This means that if you choose to receive a massage therapy, physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment with acupuncture incorporated into it, your receipt would show the paid treatment as either a massage, physiotherapy or chiropractic based treatment and not acupuncture. Only a TCM provider may issue receipts for that service.
