A Quick Guide To Your Portable Boombox

If you’ve just bought a new Portable Boombox or you’re thinking of buying one then you might find the information below useful. I’ve spent quite a lot of time on the subject because I’m addicted to audio systems so I love new technology. I also listen to music wherever I go so I have a few portable boom boxes –you could say I have plenty to say on the subject!

My go-to when I buy any new audio equipment is always Amazon.com, I find it’s usually the cheapest and I quite enjoy seeing what other consumers have to say about the products they buy. Firstly, a portable Boombox is for you if you don’t want to use headphones although of course, they almost always have an aux point for a set of headphones if you need to use them. They are also great if you want to listen to music in a place without an audio source, for example, at work (if no one minds though!).

They aren’t as portable as an MP3 player but if you don’t need that portability, a boombox will give a clearer, louder sound experience if you buy from a reputable manufacturer you trust.
Of course, whichever portable boombox you choose will have plenty of features and benefits but don’t rush decision making. Think about what you use or what you need. For example, boomboxes come with AM/FM tuners, speakers and many come with cassette players and CD players. However, if you don’t need a cassette player or CD player then these should be of secondary importance to you. Today’s technology dictates it more important to have something which can playback CD-R/+R/-RW, are compatible with your iPod/iPhone/MP3 and contain satellite ready tuners. Here are some other things to look out for:

  • If you want to use your portable Bluetooth out of your home for a long while you need long battery life
  • If you like listening to lots of different radio stations, look for station memory preset
  • If you want to connect to Bluetooth look for something which is compatible with your mobile device.

Bearing the above in mind, here are my recommendations and all are superb products delivering quality audio experience and a host of benefits and features:

SONY Portable Boombox CD, Cassette & AM/FM Radio

This is a mid-price boombox model which comes with mega bass so you really hear the depth of tone. It also has up to 19 hours of battery life and comes with 30 station presets. It looks smart boasting an LCD display and only weighs 5.8 lb so it’s easy to port. For CD and cassette enthusiasts it has both and you can connect digital music players to the speaker dock. It’s a highly recommended choice of portable boombox.

PYLE Street Vibe Bluetooth Portable Boombox Speaker

This is an incredible looking piece of equipment; it has a very futuristic sleek design which will gain so many compliments. It’s also a good price for the quality of audio and the features you get with this boombox. Complete with NFC and Bluetooth pairing you have two wireless streaming options and it’s very lightweight at 6lb.

This boombox works with all Bluetooth enabled devices and has USB and SD memory readers. Additionally it has a built in FM radio, a USB jack which is a charging port too for the rechargeable batteries the only thing it doesn’t have is a CD or cassette player.

PANASONIC RX-D55GC-K Boombox MP3 CD./AM/FM Radio Cassette Recorder

The most expensive of the three this boombox is equipped with everything you need as well as outstanding sound experience guaranteed. It comes with a 280 watt cassette recorder, quality CD player, AM/FM radio and has both USB and music ports. It also boasts four 2-way speakers with natural surround sound. Additionally it plays CD/R/RW and MP3 and gives 10 watts per channel. Heavier than the other two products, this weighs 10.1 lb.

Whichever of the above you choose will go a long way to providing you with a high quality audio-experience but if you particularly want something with CD and Cassette go for the Panasonic or the Sony.
