Princess Connect! Re: Dive 1st Impressions Game Review (IOS/Android/PC)

I have received lots of requests to review this game even though this game is only released in Japan but I will try to give an in-depth review as much as I can. Princess Connect! Re: Dive (プリンセスコネクト!Re:Dive (プリコネR)  is a 2D anime style RPG similar to Law Of Creation by Cygames which is very well known for its Granblue Fantasy game.

Design and Sound

The stages in this game are brightly and colorfully designed which is amazing to see. There is also a huge roster of characters and enemies, each with its own interaction and attacks. I like the artwork for each Character which is very similar to what you usually see from other anime style games.

Each character also has its own voice, notable from various Japanese voice actors such as M・A・O (Digimon Adventure tri., Gokukoku no Brynhildr), Risa Taneda (Kyoukai no Kanata, High School DxD BorN) and many more. This game has only female characters so it kinda sucks compared to other games but hey, at least there is a female alpaca in the game (lol).

Even if you have no idea what is going on with the story, every scene has its own short animation similar to what you normally see in any anime which I think is the first game that has this feature.

Gameplay

Similar to Law Of Creation, you have up to five characters that you can choose in a party to defeat enemies in any stage. You don’t take full control of your characters as they will automatically attack the enemies. Each character has a portrait below together with both an HP and TP bar. TP recharges overtime and once its full, you can tap the character portraits to unleash a Union Burst, some deals high physical or magic damage or heals/buffs your entire party.

Both your characters and enemies can inflict status effects like poison, slow or stun. They can also heal and gives buffs such as increasing physical/magical attack, increasing physical/magical defense and increase critical rate. One interesting thing I found out is that once you complete a stage, other than obtaining rewards your character actually gain affection points which can be level up to increase their overall stats including a special dialogue unlocked for every character.

Each chapter has around 15 stages with every last stage of each chapter will feature a boss that you have to defeat in order to progress to the next chapter. There are two types of difficulty such as normal and hard Mode. The hard mode is basically a much harder version of the chapter where you will fight not only enemies but also enemy characters which drops memory pieces which we will cover later.

There are also other modes like search stages which you can farm mana orbs or exp pots, Combat which is a Co-op mode with 2 other players, Clan Battle which you and your clan members can take on special bosses for clan medals and also a PVP battle arena mode where you can use your party to battle against other players. So there is lots of variety of modes that you can play which is pretty neat.

Enhance system

Each character has its own power level which you can increase by four different types of enhancement. Equipment enhancing is by using equipment as materials to level up the rank of your character. You can also level up the equipment to increase the stats of the equipment. Level enhance is just by using exp potions to level up your character.

Each character starts out with 2 skills which the other two can be unlocked by reaching both rank 4 and 7 respectively. You can increase their skill level which requires mana orbs to increase their effectiveness during battle. And finally, talent blooming is basically the number of memory pieces the character requires to evolve their character by one star since this game highest rarity is 5 stars.

Events and other stuff

Every event has its own special dialogue story which is very unique compared to most games. There are event stages for both normal and hard which you can gain event tickets other than equipment materials. These event tickets can be used to battle an event boss which you gain event medals to open chests for rewards. Where most games you can only get rewards through pay-to-win, you don’t need to worry about spending as the event helps beginners and experienced players for farming.

One special feature of this game also has is the guild house which you can place furniture for your cute characters to interact like eating a macaroon or sitting on a sofa. You can even tap your characters for a special dialogue which is pretty nice. Some furniture has special effects which you can collect for stamina, exp potions and more.

Worth a try?

This game overall is actually alot of fun with lots of modes that you can play, includes pvp and helpful events that speed up your progression alot faster. Yes, this game is grind heavy but this game is actually very rewarding towards the late game. For anime gamers, this is definitely a dream game for you. Even if you are not, this game is definitely worth a try.
