The reason why emergency planning is so important

The following charts / graphics are taken from the Oecd study about small and medium business across the world.
In the first one we have a couple of countries, in this example focused on Europe, which shows nicely that in most countries we have a large number of micro-firms as also non-employers.

Typically we have in this firms no requirement from outside to provide emergency plans and most likely the missing requirement for them or time to think about them.
The reality as also this numbers show, is that in micro-firms it is common that one person is responsible for several departments and holds a lot of expertise. This person has normally one deputy which has some knowledge to take over for short periods like illness or vacation. In the best case this deputy has near the same experience and knowledge as the person in charge. The hard reality proves us most the opposite. Which is also logical, because in a micro-firm with up to nine employee everyone of them has his / her speciality.
Second graphic shows same results, including countries outside Europe and the cross rate over the OECD states. Concluding from both graphics the main focus of almost each economy is on micro and medium sized firms. The cross rate from OECD shows that more then 50 per cent of our firms have less then 50 employees.
