Phillauri is the latest Bollywood romantic comedy Film with a touch of Horror in it. Don’t worry! The film wouldn’t scare you, though. Anshai Lal directs the film; there are two creative producers associated with the film, director Navdeep Singh, and writer Sudip Sharma.
Phillauri is a jointly produced by Anushka Sharma and Karnesh Sharma; the production house working for this movie is Clean Slate Films and Fox Star Studios. Shashwat Sachdev and Jasleen Royal have composed the music of the film; whereas, Sameer Uddin is the name behind the background score. March 24, 2017, is the set day for the film’s release.

Phillauri: Story Plot
The story of Phillauri revolves around a boy Kanan (Suraj Sharma) who is Mangalik; he is instructed to marry a tree before marrying any girl. Following the myths and beliefs reluctantly, Kanan first marries a tree and then gets married to the girl Anu (Mehreen Pirzada).
Here’s the twist that follows Kanan’s belief. He realizes that he has married a spirit that was residing inside the tree by marrying the tree, and the spirit or the so-called ghost is Shashi (Anushka Sharma). The spirit follows him everywhere and finally tells him the tragic story of her life when she was alive. It looks like this movie’s story is inspired from “Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride” to a certain extent.
Critics Review
The B-town Biggies have delivered overwhelming responses and reviews for this Hindi film after the special Bollywood screening; however, critics provided mixed reviews for this upcoming Romantic Horror!
John Kaery of Reporter-Times said: “Phillauri combines romance with comedy and extremely fine work. All the actors performed above the expected levels. Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh chemistry are quick love. Projection of early age India was nicely done.Director Anshai Lal delivered exceptional performance after quite long. 2nd half comparatively less entertaining. Unique story penning style is quick love. Overall, a must watch for movie lovers this weekend.”
Manjusha Radhakrishnan of Gulf News said: “Director (Anshai) Lal prefers to narrate his story at a languid pace and that can be frustrating for the viewers. Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh are perfectly cast as a troubled poet, but there’s little spark between Anushka and him. The computer graphics in this movie is notable, barring the climax which feels overdone. It’s the predictability of the story that lets this film done. You know what’s coming long before it plays out and that makes it tedious and soul-destroying.”
Final Verdict
Finally, a new concept, a fresh story with light comedy and romance are the ingredients of Phillauri. Anushka did some films as human and now she is there with a film as a ghost. This beautiful ghost will not scare you, but you will love to watch her. Although the script runs slower than the other recent films, it is an entertaining one. Set it out with your popcorn buckets as it is a must-watch for this weekend!
