The New Aston Martin DB11 V8

The Aston Martin DB11

The new Aston Martin DB11 comes with a new smaller engine and minor suspension tweaks which makes it sweeter than its big brother V12.

Everyone may be interested in Aston Martin new Vantage, but silently rolling down the line is the new 4 litre V8 powered DB11. This is the first Aston Martin to be fitted with the new Mercedes-AMG engine. Although it is down on power and a few cylinders compared to the V12, it is still could be a pick of the bunch. Yet when it comes to figures the DB11 V8 is slightly beaten by the V12, which can expect in every way. The V8 develops 503bhp and 685nm of torque whereas the V12 produces 600bhp and 700nm. This has a higher top speed of 200mph compared to the V8 187mph. The V12 can reach 0-62 in 3.9 seconds which is one-tenth faster than the V8 edition. As we would expect, the V8 is cheaper of the two, cutting down around £13,000 off the price.

After the first few hundred yards, you can immediately sense that the DB11 V8 feels lighter. In contrast, it’s definitely more nimble and alert to inputs from the steering too. This is because the V8 is 115kg lighter than the V12. All this weight lost from the front allows it to feel so quick on the road.

The DB11 Design

The new Aston Martin DB11 has a much more aggressive exhaust note, which builds up in ferocity when you cycle through the driving modes GT, Sport and Sport+. In its most aggressive settings, the response from the engine and gearbox is instant and extremely satisfying. However, when it comes to the morning where the weather is cold and damp the rear wheels do have a job trying to harness all that power. The difference in weight is really noticeable when you get into a corner. This is because the lighter front end tucks in quicker and with more precision. The chassis modifications which includes slighter stiffer rear suspension and softer front suspension. This gives faultless body composure during fast direction changes. The DB11 still feels like a big car. Although the V8 under the bonnet does bring out the DB11’s more athletic side.

There is little to no trade-off when it comes to being a GT car. The ride quality is faultless for a car packing so much performance, and while there is a small sharp edge to the ride over some broken tarmac, you will easily be comfortable enough when travelling long distances. At a cruise, the V8 is smooth an reasonably efficient. Aston claims it will do 28.5mpg. Although in the real world you are looking at significantly less.

Verdict

Inside of the cabin design is unlike anything you will find in any other supercar. There is so much attention to detail and no fault. We are assured that the class standards will be perfect within luxuriousness and refinement. This will all be improved for customer deliveries. The double stitched leather covers all surfaces. However, while marble effect inlays can be fitted to the centre console. One minor issue is the infotainment system which is rather clunky. This is also adopted from Mercedes. This is a little slow to respond to inputs and is not the most intuitive to use due to a maze of complex sub-menus.If you are looking to get your hands on one of the prices start from £144,900
