Easily confused English words

Do you pause over words like advice and advise, or phrases like “to pour” or “to pore” when writing? Most English words are not spelled phonetically. This means words are not always spelled the way they sound.

Some words in English may have similar sounds but are completely different in meaning, and may have different Spelling. They are called homophones.

The difference between a homophone and a homonym is that homonyms are a group of words that share the same spelling and the same pronunciation but have different meanings.

For example, can (A can of tomatoes) and can (I can fly a plane).

All homonyms are Homophones because they sound the same, but not all homophones are homonyms because homophones do not always have the same spelling even if they sound the same. I will write about homonyms (with examples) in a different post. Today, I want to focus on homophones.

Homophones often account for writing errors like misused words and some spelling mistakes.
