Usually we do comparison because of human nature. Yes we do, whenever we see some brands, destination or anything we have and we are using, start analyzing it. Stop I think I am talking about something else? Yes, so let’s return back to topic. As I see my phone it have different theme and function then other have although the brand and model are same and I always wondered about it. I think you guys are also until you did not heard about Jailbreaking. Yes, now I knew why we have different function and theme only because of Jailbreaking. May be there are newbie also that know the word Jailbreaking but does not aware what exactly it is.

I will try to complete each and every question about it like what is jailbreaking, how it can be done on my device, Is it safe and why I should do this?

What is Jailbreaking?

Firstly I would like to introduced one term Digital Rights Management (DRM) because it will help to understand about Jailbreaking more technically .

Digital Rights Management: Most of the system which uses the software and inbuilt programming, they are compatible with their software or you can say that they have copyright and they are developed according to that devices. So Smart phones, Game consoles, Smart TV, Computing Devices etc all have this Digital Rights Management software layer. Actually this is the layer which authenticates which software can run on which device or for security reasons as well.

You can read here more about DRM.

So Jailbreaking is the process of disabling the DRM of iDevices and free from all restriction which is composed by the manufacturer of a iDevice, allowing you to make run other unauthorized software on your system.

As we know that in Unix system Super User can do anything because of Root access. That’s why you can say that Jailbreaking is the process of gaining the root access of your iDevice.

Now come to the non-technical definition; simply just to make your iDevice capable of running unauthorized Apps, tweaks, Games etc.

So now you understood the term Jailbreaking and its time to analyze all other aspects of it.

Why I Do Jailbreak My iDevice?

As Apple says, “an app is like a sandbox. Your app can only play within the sandbox”. But if you like to roam outside of it, Jailbreaking is only option for you.

Simply you can download any Apps, tweaks, Games etc that restricted by App Store.

To expand the features restricted by Apple and App Store of your iDevices you can run Apps and Tweaks that are not allowed by App Store. For enhancing your iDevice experience to the extraordinary level.
You can customize your iDevice according to you that will leads to flexibility and it is the biggest reason for any human

Last one, it’s your device and you can do whatever you want to do with it.
But Jailbreaking wiil not give you everything, you should have access to Apps and Tweak which are not present in App Store & for this you should have other App Store and solution of this is Cydia. If you don’t know about it you can read about it in my previous post “ What is Cydia ” .

Why I Don’t Jailbreak My iDevice?

As I said software are designed to run on specified devices and also have DRM layer also.  iDevices have inbuilt software and programming that are specially built for iDevice sytem but when we Jailbreak our device it add some program and modifies setting because of new software setting, sometime system unable to handle new Apps and tweak that sometimes leads to some abnormal behavior.

As jaibreaking gives you access to root it opens it to more malicious attacks.
Once you do jailbreak, you are on your own. You may have voided your warranty, so you can't rely on AT&T, Verizon, or Apple to fix any problems you encounter.

Is it Legal?

Source: http://www.pcworld.com/

It depends a little bit on who you ask, but as far as the US government is concerned, it is legal to jailbreak your smartphone. In 2010, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) recognized the arguments of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF, the international non-profit digital rights advocacy organization) to add phone jailbreaking to a list of exemptions to anti-circumvention provisions. This DMCA exemption is up for review again this year, and the EFF and other groups like the Software Freedom Law Center hope to get the exemption expanded to cover hacking other personal computing devices--like tablets and game consoles--as well.

Some folks, particularly hackers and modders, insist that jailbreaking is a right and do it as something of a statement. They'll often compare it it souping up a car: Imagine buying a car with the hood welding shut so you can't modify it. Some say that's just not right.

Apple and some other companies, on the other hand, continue to plead with regulators to outlaw the practice. The best they can do at this point is tell users that jailbreaking defies their terms of use and voids the warranty. In other words, while you don't risk being arrested just for jailbreaking, don't expect any help from the Apple Store genius when your hacked iPhone has a problem.
