Zero rider sets new electric record for longest journey in 24 hours

Zero rider Remo Klawitter has set a new record for the longest distance covered on an Electric motorcycle in 24 hours, covering 1113.4km (691.8 miles) – a distance equivalent to riding from London to John O’Groats – on a looped ride between Berlin and the Land Centre for Renewable Energies in Neustrelitz, Germany last month.

Riding a 2018 Zero DSR ZF14.4, standard but for the fitment of a Zero’s optional Charge Tank, the Berliner set off at midday and rode in 150km (93 miles) stints at an average of between 55-60mph, and fully recharging in one hour by utilising the new Charge Tank, which allows connection to Level Two public charging points, and Zero’s accessory quick chargers.

Remo, a bicycle shop owner and e-bike enthusiast commented:

“I have been thinking about a 24 hour ride since the middle of 2017. Primarily I wanted to have fun, while drawing people’s attention to the practicality of Electric Motorcycles. Everything we have used is readily available from Zero and the route was on public roads. In total, we spent nine and a half hours charging and during this time, as well as resting and eating, I was able to speak to many people who were interested in the bike and the journey. The technology worked great and in total the cost of the electricity we used was just € 28.50 and the average speed was 46.4kph (28.8mph) including the breaks.”

Recognising the number of European riders looking to cover longer distances on electric motorcycles, Zero has introduced a new model for 2018 – the Zero DSR ZF14.4 Black Forest Edition. Based on the standard DSR as ridden by Klawitter, the Black Forest edition adds a range of practical options including black aluminium top box and panniers, a high touring screen, comfort touring seat and crash protection bars. With dual purpose Pirelli MT-60 tyres specified as standard, the Black Forest edition also adds hand guards, a headlight protector and LED auxiliary lights for riders who want to take their bikes off-road.

The Zero DSR ZF14.4 Black Forest Edition comes with exclusive graphics and can be specified with the Zero Charge Tank as an option. Prices start at £18,785, with bikes available in UK dealerships from April.
