Renault have taken up the electric car challenge and entered the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb taking place on the 3rd and 4th June. Organisers the Midland Automobile Club, invited all the car manufacturers to enter a variety of classes with the electric class being the main focus, as the venue looks to create some new history at the 122 year old venue.
Renault have grabbed the opportunity and have entered the latest Renault ZOE Dynamique ZE40 with a potential range of 250 miles (NEDC). Equipped with an electric motor outputting 92hp and 220nm of torque the chic Renault can hit a top speed of 84mph arriving at 62 mph in 13.5 seconds. The ZOE will set the first record for a Battery Electric car, piloted by motoring journalist Steve Cropley and his colleague Sam Sheehan sharing the driving over the two days.
“This is great news. Renault loved the idea we put forward and very quickly committed. This aspect of the event is new for us and one we would like to build on over the next few years, giving the manufacturers a home to promote their products in a live environment in front of potential customers.
For Shelsley Walsh it marks another moment in its history books as we invite manufacturers back to this historic venue and create some new history.”
Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb is the oldest motor sport venue in the world still in continuous use. It was first used in 1905 and still uses its original layout and featured its first speed event in 1901 on the edge of the rolling hills of the Cotswolds.
