Electric vehicle routing made easy with customised data

Leading organisations are beginning to invest in Electric vehicles for the delivery and collection of goods and services.

Despite an often higher upfront cost, EV’s are not subject to the expensive fuel costs of traditional vehicles and present a viable solution to the rising carbon emissions and associated pollution levels plaguing major urban areas.

Routing and optimising a fleet of electric vehicles presents its own unique set of challenges where routes need to take into account the distance the vehicle can cover and the topography of any route.

The EV Customised Road Network dataset from Mapmechanics features a complete UK road network optimised for Electric Vehicle routing, with features such as incline and decline gradients, sharp corners, traffic lights, roundabouts and congested areas.

This dataset will cater directly for an EV’s reduced range by identifying road network features that place additional energy demands on that vehicle.

For example, a business that needed to deliver to locations known to be surrounded by steep hills or highly congested areas could use this dataset to route an electric vehicle to take the steep hills into account, avoid them entirely or send and alternatively powered vehicle to undertake a journey.

Mapmechanics data can be customised to be made available in the routing software of your choice, therefore not requiring investment in new software or limiting you to Mapmechanics routing software.
