Young Generals Celebrate Scouting Month

October of every year is the Scouting Month in the Philippines. At the same time the 10th month of the year is also the National Children's Month. It is the month to recognize the vital role of the youth in nation building and shall promote the welfare and protection of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and well being of the future of the country - the YOUTH.

The public and private schools of General Santos were busy preparing for the whole month activity. The 76th Scouting Month Celebration with the theme BE PREPARED: "LEADERSHIP FOR LIFE" was officially welcomed by Boy Scouts of the Philippines Eastern Mindanao Region together with Congressman Pedro "Jun" Acharon Jr., and City Councilor Eduardo D. Leyson IV in behalf of City Mayor Darlene Magnolia R. Antonino-Custodio.

Boy scouts and Girl Scouts are now internalizing the Scout Oath and Law to feel the Scouting spirit.

"ONCE A SCOUT, ALWAYS A SCOUT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH LORD BADEN POWELL!"

The month long celebration is important and shall achieve the following objectives:

a. Leadership, Character & Skills Development
b. Challenging and Adventurous Activities
c. Emergency Preparedness and Response Training
d. Community Service and Community Development
e. Environmental Projects (e.g. protecting water resources, energy conservation,
planting trees, recycling waste

The celebration must also be a reminder that the cause of Scouting is EDUCATION FOR LIFE and must be perceived by these young individuals as the mainstream force of the society in developing the positive character of the youth.
