Well it is my first foray into the world of blogging. Truth be known, I have not yet decided on a specific direction for this site. There will be some politics mixed with urbanism, a slice of corporate Culture, a splash of Media issues, seasoned with a dose of irreverence. All through the point of view of a transplanted Anglophone now living in Montreal.
There will be one common theme however and that is to increase social awareness of issues that quite often do not make their way into the mainstream Discourse of Canadians. It is an independent point of view into the state of the nation which we call home. While I will make an honest attempt to be partisan and not simply adopt a knee jerk, socialist attitude on all issues and evaluate them based on their own merit and principles, I also will not hold back my own opinions.
Having viewed numerous amounts of blogs over the past year and watching them grow in size and credibility it has shown itself to be an exciting new medium. It is breaking down the usual barriers to media and providing a Format which can easily collect, collate, and analyze news sources from across the country and the world. It allows readers to input their own feedback on articles, creating a loop which has not just lead to a greater access of information, but the creation of original content in itself. Grassroots political groups have seen the potential for organization over the internet through the sharing and distribution of content and ideas.
It is a format that many passed off at first. Little more than a fad that would find itself limited to pop culture fan sites and pictures of peoples pets. Yet its unfettered, organic growth has created an emerging network that is slowly changing how people receive, process, and even, talkback, to their media. Its decentralized, almost democratic power structure puts the power not in the hands of a privileged, elite few, but almost equally among all people. Intelligent, insightful, relevant content can be transmitted to hundreds and thousands of sites within hours of its discovery, while irrelevant garbage will find itself sitting stagnant and without the audience it does not deserve.
I hope through this blog, through its own progression, through readers feedback, through discourse, and through time, that it can at least light the fire of a few more people to undertake the same endeavors, and hopefully enlighten at the same time.
