Morning After Pill

Plan B and Preven, pills that prevent pregnancy when taken within 12-24 hours of unprotected sex, are widely misunderstood by Pharmacists and in turn are not being provided for women in need. Plan B DOES NOT TERMINATE A PREGNANCY, it simply prevents the egg from being fertilized if it hasn’t done so already. Pharmacists in Wisconsin and other states are refusing to stock the contraceptive pill because it goes against their morals. In Wisconsin, 43% of pharmacies do not stock the morning after pill. Some pharmacies account this on the lack of demand for the drug but others do not stock it on moral grounds. My question is, who are these pharmacists (who on the whole are men) to make moral decisions which affect their customers? Contraceptives should be available to all women in all 50 states despite the moral feelings of the middleman known as the pharmacists. By not stocking these drugs, pharmacists are changing the lives of millions of women, ultimately for the worse. Using Plan B would in turn prevent the need for an abortion, a fact that pharmacists are unaware of or just choose to ignore. Regardless of how many women use the drug, whether it’s one or one million, all pharmacies should have it on hand 365 days of the year.
