American Girl Dolls and Abortion?

It seems that pro-life groups have decided to take a new route to unfairly persuade people to take a stance against abortion. They are now focusing on children and their toys. One pro-life organization is calling for a boycott against American Girl Dolls because the company has ties to Girls Inc., who, among having done otherpositive things, supports the right to abortion.

A promotion project took off in August that began the sales of bracelets that have the words “I Can” engraved on them. The project was jointly headed by American Girl and Girls Inc. The proceeds go to fund efforts to help raise self-esteem in young girls. Yet these pro-life groups are taking away from the original message by focusing on a subject that has nothing to do with the other.

Ann Scheidler, the director of the Chicago-based Pro-Life Action League said, “We are asking people who care about little girls, and about the value of human life, to refrain from purchasing products and visiting American Girl Place during the entire Christmas shopping season.”

However I don’t think it’s fair to cast a shadow over the positive messages a certain company projects because they have an alliance with a pro-choice group that doesn’t seem to affect their line of products in any way.
