Union Government of India has made mandatory Linking of Aadhaar with all welfare schemes, in addition with other essential services like banking and phone. Till now 31 march, 2018 was the last date for the aforesaid linking of all accounts with Aadhaar Number, but on 13 March, 2018, The Supreme Court of India extended this deadline indefinitely.
Indefinite Date of Linking Aadhaar Number
On 13 March,2018 a bench of five-judge comprising
Chief justice of India Dipak Misra,
Justices A K Sikri,
Justice A M Khanwilkar,
Justice Ashok Bhushan and
Justice D Y Chandrachud announced that last date i.e. 31 march,2018 for linking of mobile phones and all Bank Accounts will be on hold till the final decision comes.
However, this deadline of 31 March, 2018 will not be extended for availing any subsidy under welfare scheme of government.
Is There Any Specific List of Exempted Services from Aadhaar Linking?
There is not any specific list of exempted services from this deadlines but mobiles phones, bank accounts and issue of new passport, pension or insurance etc. can be continued till further decision.
Here, one thing to understand that section 7 of Aadhaar Act, 2016 was made with an objective of identifying those candidates who are eligible to take or taking any subsidy or benefit of government welfare schemes for which expenditure is incurred from the Consolidated Fund of India.
Linking of Aadhaar number for such purpose is having logic for authentication of right person. But, linking of all services of all citizens of India has been challenged by a bunch of application as it goes against our right to privacy.
UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) clarified that till further decision no last date is being specified but, Aadhaar will be necessary for opening new bank accounts as well as for applying for Tatkal passports.
We can predict with the situation that linking process will continue without specifying any last date.
