Delhi: Supreme Court in favour of relaxing abortion deadline

  • The Supreme Court came out in favour of amending the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act by allowing women to abort terminally ill fetuses beyond the present limit of 20 weeks.
  • The bill intends to extend abortion deadline to 24 weeks, if doctors believe that pregnancy poses a threat to mother's life or if there are fetal abnormalities.

  • The Gurgaon police recovered 21 mobile phones, 10 SIM cards, two chargers and a pen drive from inmates during a day-long search in Bhondsi jail.
  • According to police, the jammers in jail can only stop signals of 2G, 3G phones and therefore, the inmates started using 4G handsets.
  • The physical searches will continue till the entire jail is covered by hi-tech jammers.

  • Ghaziabad's fire department got its first 42-metre hydraulic platform that will help fight fires in residential and commercial high-rise buildings.
  • Costing nearly Rs. 3.75crore, the equipment, mounted on a vehicle, will be able to reach atop a 15-storey building and will aid in rescuing those trapped on top floors during an emergency.
  • In 2016 alone, the department succeeded in saving property worth Rs. 272crore.
