Reliance Jio extends free offer for 100 million customers

  • To celebrate 100 million-strong telecom customers base, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani today announced a new Jio Prime offer beginning April 1, 2017.
  • Ambani claimed Jio added an average of seven customers every second every single day for 170 days.
  • Jio had planned to charge its customers after its ongoing offer allowing free data and free calls expires on March 31, 2017.

  • All domestic voice calls to any network will be free. There will be no roaming charges, no hidden charges and no blackout days.
  • The new "Jio Prime" offer will only be rolled out to customers who joined the network or registered for the offer before March 31st, 2017. Customers can avail this at a joining fee of Rs 99 and Rs 303 monthly charges.

  • Jio network will be present in all the cities, villages and cover 99 percent of the country's population by 2018 end, Ambani said. It was possible because of Aadhar-backed number portability process.

  • The report suggested that Jio may be considering an extension because "the ongoing membership drive did not get the expected results." So far, reportedly 22-27 million users have enrolled for the program.

  • The users can get extra 1GB, 5GB and 10GB data on recharging for Rs.149 and above before March 31.
  • Recharging for Rs. 499 and above will give users 10GB of free data each month over existing benefits, translating into 120GB.
