John Deere Compact Construction Equipment can be used for multiple purposes, even when it comes to dealing with the ups and downs of the Mississippi River. Bill King, owner of King’s Cove Marina in Hastings, Minnesota, knew he could rely on John Deere compact construction equipment to maintain the land surrounding his marina. This is especially important to him, as he has seen his fair share of floods over the years, including “the big one” that came through in 1993.

“I don’t lose a lot of sleep over it,” King said about the flooding. “You figure out what you have to do. You say to yourself, ‘This is what has to be fixed immediately, so guess what? We’ll get it done.’ And John Deere equipment helps us do that. Every year is different, and we just have to adapt. It makes things interesting, for sure.”

Putting John Deere Compact Construction Equipment to Use

King owns almost 280 acres of land in and around the marina. He hires a logging crew to manage timber and utilizes a John Deere 333G Compact Track Loader to till and prep the ground. The 333G is equipped with a mulching head, grapple, dozer blade, or bucket, providing operators with the ability to clear brush, open up trails, prep soil, and grade.

“It helps us with whatever we’re doing,” says King. “It’s versatile, efficient, and very powerful.”

Turning to Deere Throughout the Years

King’s father initially started King’s Cove Marina back in 1965. King began working in the business when he was just a child, doing odd jobs and working on cleaning up – he took over the business for his father 10 years ago.

Mid-May is the busiest time of year for King and his team, as they must haul 300 boats out of winter storage and dock them. This is where the John Deere 312GR Skid Steer comes in handy.

“The 312GR is perfect for getting into tight areas and through narrow openings where other machines can’t go,” King says. “It’s not too small and not too big. It’s got plenty of horsepower for our needs around the marina. We can move our boats around without delays or problems.”

King and his family have relied on John Deere equipment for almost 50 years.

“The machines simply work,” he says. “They’re easy to maintain and service. And we get great support from our Deere dealer, who does whatever is necessary to keep us up and running. And that’s what it’s all about.”
