Creative Interaction and User Engagement

Tags: application

With a seemingly never-ending plethora of social mobile applications geared towards bringing users together, it seems as though each idea that's supposed to be better than the previous is simply diluting the market with options that confuse the audience.  That being said, there are phenomenal applications being launched daily that each accomplish a great level of user engagement, unfortunately with so many options, people don't know where to turn or which apps to use.  This comes down to understanding that social mobile users want three fundamental things:

1. Quick and instant to learn applications.
2. Applications that instantly do what they're supposed to do.
3. Applications that they won't be embarrassed to post on their Facebook and Twitter pages.

Users are inherently drawn to apps that provide a new way to engage other users in a creative manner, however due to the fact that either A) the idea is too big for the current market or B) the user enjoys the novelty for a minute then moves on, it's tough for a new application to gain major traction.  The issue isn't an over-saturated market, it's a lack of unified applications.  This is why we see users having several social networking apps on their phone, but always going to the staples.  For video calls, Skype.  For social networking, Facebook or Twitter.

It's a brave new world out there for app developers but the real risk is in creatively innovating with a "back to the basics" approach in a way that both engages and captures the audience across all demographics while organically incentivising users to invite others to join.
