I love Bluetooth speakers. I don’t know why—maybe it’s the convenience and portability combined with the ability to share your music and be an amateur DJ while hosting guests or providing background music for an event. My favorite brands are Bose and JBL and I own several of each. I’m really loving the way JBL offers a variety of form factors and sizes that have the ability to pair with one another to further amplify your sound or provide more of a surround sound experience. JBL’s latest entry is the JBL Boombox.

The Boombox is exactly what it sounds like: a nice big speaker with a huge carrying handle and enough bass to keep a Hip Hop Head happy. It’s the biggest of the Three Bears in my collection with the Flip being the smallest, the Extreme offering a mid sized experience and the Boombox sitting at the top of the food chain. They’re all great—I can keep the Flip in my car’s glovebox, I can carry the Extreme with me to the beach or in my backpack and the Boombox goes with me whenever and wherever I need to bring the boom. Battery life is great for all with each having a nice reserve; I never find them completely dead when I want to use them after weeks of inactivity and they charge quickly. Both the Extreme and the Boombox can be used to charge other devices using their high capacity batteries and USB connections and the Boombox offers the additional feature of being IPX 7 certified and is completely submersible under water…if you’re into completely surmerging your electronics under water.
