While it is indeed possible to find a hoverboard for sale cheap, possibly even cheaper than the one we have recommended here, there are still a lot of hoverboards out there that are not UL2272 certified.

The long and short of it is, yes! There are some good companies on Amazon that sell legitimate hoverboards.

At the same time, though, you want to make sure that you’re getting a quality hoverboard. Amazon’s review system has been kinda broken for a while now, and there are many companies that try to game the system.

What are Some Alternatives to Get a Hoverboard Cheap?

The most obvious alternatives would be to just get a regular electric scooter (like a kick scooter), or even going down the DIY route, although that’s for people with at least some experience with electronics!

What we DO NOT recommend is getting a hoverboard used. Hoverboards are pretty delicate and we’ve heard of a lot of people getting used hoverboards cheap that had been battered, or whose internal components were malfunctioning.

Mainly, it depends on the components and the specs of your hoverboard: you can have smaller or bigger hoverboards, more or less powerful motors, larger or smaller capacity batteries etc.

That’s why it’s important to make sure that your hoverboard fits your needs in terms of weight requirements, speed, etc.

The cheapest hoverboard may not always be the best choice, particularly if you want something that’s good off-road or up steep hills.

Can You Get a Hoverboard Under $100?

Update: I’m adding this paragraph cause lately we’ve received a ton of messages of people claiming that they’ve found a hoverboard under 100 dollars.

Unfortunately—barring some seasonal deals or sales—the only way to get a hoverboard that cheap is to either make your own, or get a used one.
