Furry Friday – Blue Dog Bakery And How To Store Dog Treats

Knowing how to store dog treats will help keep your pet’s treats fresher longer, ensuring the best flavor while helping protect against foodborne illness.

If you have a pet then you probably just finished celebrating Pet Appreciation Week, which is the first week in June. For many of us, showing our pets that we care involves giving them a Treat. With Father’s Day, summer break and Take Your Dog to Work Day (June 22) all approaching, it’s a time of year where we spend a lot of time with our dogs. Dobby is pretty happy all year round, but seems to especially enjoy this time of year because the days are longer which means his play time outdoors is longer. Which of course means there’s more treats involved. I was recently introduced to Blue Dog Bakery and wanted to share them with you.

Who is Blue Dog Bakery?

When starting Blue Dog Bakery in 1998, the company’s founders wanted to find a way to offer better treats in retail locations such as grocery stores. Their first step in accomplishing their goal was to use only premium ingredients when making their freshly baked, delicious treaats. Ten years after the company was started, Blue Dog Bakery became the first all-natural, premium, and low fat dog treat option to be nationally distributed wherever you buy groceries. They continue to build on the brand, and have expanded their line to include treats of many shapes, sizes and textures. I received a sampling of some of the treats that they currently offer.

What sort of products does Blue Dog Bakery make?

Blue Dog Bakery’s Grain Free Biscuits are the perfect reward for dogs with sensitive stomachs or dietary restrictions. Their Grain Free treats are made with premium human-grade ingredients grown on American farms, and are baked with an extra crunch to help clean teeth and freshen breath.

Blue Dog Bakery’s Beef Bites and Beef Sticks are tender and delicious all natural treats made with USA premium beef. Made in the USA, each of these chewy treats is packed with big taste and plenty of protein, so you can feel good about rewarding your pooch whether you’re at home or out on the range.

Blue Dog Bakery’s Chicken Bites and Chicken Sticks are tender and delicious all natural treats made with USA, farm-raised chicken. Each bite is packed with big taste and plenty of protein, making them so rewarding your pooch won’t be tempted to raid the coop.

Dobby has been enjoying all of the Blue Dog Bakery treats that we received. He does enjoy the biscuits, but I have a suspicion that his favorite are the Beef Sticks and Chicken Sticks. He knows as soon as he sees the resealable packges that a moist, tender, chewy treat is just moments away. And the sticks last a little longer and he gets to chew a little more. It’s easy to see with all of the treats that he finds them to be tasty because he becomes very attentive and doesn’t dawdle in gobbling them up.

Learn about these products and others on the Blue Dog Bakery website. You can also keep up with Blue Dog Bakery on social media, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Now that you know where to find yummy dog treats, you might find it helpful to know how to Store Dog Treats. Aside from keeping treats fresh and helping prevent foodborne illness, knowing how to store dog treats is important because if you don’t store them right, your dog may just try and get them himself and eat them all up. Mine would!

How To Store Dog Treats

Proper dog treat storage is important because it keeps them as fresh as possible, extends their shelf life and helps protect them against foodborne illness. The FDA recommends that treats be kept in a cool and dry place that’s less than 80 degrees, since excess heat and/or moisture can cause nutrients to breakdown and encourage spoiling. It’s usually best to store dog treats in their original packaging, just in case you need information from it in case of a product recall. Dog treats should be kept in an air-tight container, which will help keep treats fresh while helping protect them against harmful bacteria that causes them to spoil. I keep resealable packages in an airtight container as well, just in case the seal doesn’t close properly. Another benefit of keeping dog treats in an airtight container is that your dog won’t get into them and eat them all at once.
