Matthew West is one of my favorite Christian music artists, so I was really excited to get the opportunity to review his new CD, "All In"! This album really feels like it came directly from Matthew's heart. One of his recurring themes, which I hope speaks to many people, is that you are good enough for God. It doesn't matter what you've done or how imperfect you are, Matthew says in "Broken Things": "Now I'm just a beggar in the presence of a king. I wish I could bring so much more. But if it's true you use broken things, then here I am Lord, I am all yours." He reminds us that "It's always the ones with scars that you use, It's the rebels and the prodigals." In "Mercy Is a Song," he continues this theme by telling us: "Mercy is a song singing to my heart, telling me it's okay, come just as you are."
In one of my favorite songs, "The Sound of a Life Changing," Matthew shares how he came to be a Christian songwriter and singer. "I heard it all from the cheap seats, Assembly Hall Arena, Champaign, Illnois. Just a poor college boy making noise, writing my first songs. Steven Curtis up on stage, singing 'Speechless' left me speechless and amazed. Tears rolling down my face. I heard a still small voice say, 'That's gonna be you someday.'" And Matthew's ode to his mother, "Becoming Me," will have you in tears when he says "I'm becoming me because of you." He doesn't forget his loving wife, either, as he sings, "When I think about the only things in life that pull me through, I hit my knees and thank the Lord for Jesus & You."

Matthew wrote his new album "All In" with the goal of encouraging himself and others to get up off the sidelines of their faith and really live it out -- to go all in in your time with God, all in with your family, all in with your community, and all in battling your fears that may hold you back from becoming who God made you to be. Along that same theme, Matthew will be launching a six-week All in Challenge on his social media starting 9/18, and each week Matthew will be challenging his fans to go all in in a different part of their lives. What does it look like when a heart that knows Jesus takes a step and holds nothing back? How can we go All In in the places that mean the most?
