When people think department store, they think Macy’s. The staple store has been around for over 150 years, and has become a household name when looking to buy almost anything – clothing, shoes housewares, appliances, and even Christmas decorations around the holidays.

We’ve all seen Macy’s “One Day Sale” commercials on TV, or received the store’s circular in our Sunday newspaper. But how much do you really know about saving money at Macy’s? Did you know ordering online can actually earn you store credit? We asked around to find out what other Macy’s savings hacks top coupon bloggers could come up with. Here’s what they said:

Choose “No Hurry” shipping to get store credit

This winning tip is from Jenilee Dunson, of the blog Geeky Sweetie.  If you’re not in a rush to receive your order, and can wait over a week to get it, choose the “No Hurry” option to earn Macy’s Money while you wait!

This is another Shipping hack. You can opt for slower shipping (around 10 days) and receive not only FREE shipping, but $5 Cash Back in Macy’s Money to use for your next purchase.

You can also get free shipping by adding a qualifying beauty product

The shipping savings continue with this hack from One Frugal Girl. Save big on shipping by purchasing any qualifying Beauty product! You’re going to end up buying something beauty-related anyway (even wipes count!), and it’s better than paying for shipping.

Macy’s shipping is quite pricey. Save yourself the extra $10.95 charge by adding any beauty item to your order. As soon as you add a qualifying beauty item your entire order will ship for free! If you search hard enough you can often find beauty products on sale for $4 to $5. Right now you can actually buy Burt’s Bees baby wipes for $4.25 when you use coupon code: VIP. (Who knew they qualified as a beauty product?) You pay $4.25 for the wipes, but that’s a whole lot better than paying $10.95 for shipping and getting nothing extra in return. And before you checkout don’t forget to enter your plenti points to earn points towards your next purchase too.

Shop during the Friends & Family Sale

Barbara Ritzman, of the blog Barbie’s Beauty Bits, says to save your major purchases for this biannual sale.

MARK IT ON YOUR CALENDAR…Two times a year, Macy’s offers 25% off your purchase at the Friends & Family Sale. One sale takes place in spring, the other at the start of December. Love that this is in December as I can save on the big purchases for the holidays!

Check out Macy’s current rebate offers

If you’re not opposed to cashing in the old-fashioned way, with mail-in rebates, Greg Doane of Money Saving Quest has a hack for you.

New Macy’s rebates are released every month here, and are usually for kitchen related items. You can even combine rebates with coupons and sales, making for some great deals.

Sign up for the Macy’s newsletter

Ashley Drewes found a hack that saves you money just by signing up to receive the store’s email newsletter. Check out her blog, Closet of Free Samples.

Sign up for their newsletter! It’s the best way to learn about new sales, events, or coupons they currently have. You can also choose to receive text notifications of new or upcoming sales as well. Macy’s offers a 15% discount for new members to their email newsletter, so it’s incentive to sign up for the discount code, even if you don’t intend on reading every newsletter that arrives in your inbox.

Sign up for the Macy’s credit card

These days, there are always store credit card options at any retailer. Macy’s is no different. Right now, if you open up a credit card, you can save 20% on your purchase for the next two days. Thanks to Enza Ketcham of Enza’s Bargains for the tip!

If you sign up for a Macy’s credit card, you earn points and then get free coupons! But always be sure to pay it off quickly, and use it to just rack up points for better offers! Credit cards can save you a lot of money IF YOU use them wisely and pay them off right away!

We’d like to congratulate @GeekySweetie for winning a $25 Macys’ gift card for sharing the most helpful and original savings tip! Check out this week’s contest for Best Buy and enter to win a $25 gift card here.
