Cathy Doll AA Matte Powder Cushion – Review, Photos & Swatches

You know I love me some cushions and you’re probably tired of me reviewing/featuring them but we’re not done yet because I have tons of new cushions to introduce to you guys. And just when you think we’re done with the BB, CC, DD, ZZ products out there in the market today, Cathy Doll has come up with their very own AA Series (more info about it here) and one of them is this Cushion. I have been using this multiple times now and I can’t wait to share my thoughts about this product with you.

Say bye to grease and dark spots with this matte finish powder cushion from Cathy Doll. Containing Tea Tree Oil Extracts, Titanium Dioxide, and Korean herbs, this oil-control formula comes with the latest innovative airy foundation technology to provide cooling sensation and protects skin from dullness.

I love bright colors and I LOVE PINK so the packaging is definitely a win for me. Similar to other cushion products, this comes with a thick, bulky plastic with a separate compartment for the AA Cushion, and the sponge. The cushion also pops out so you can definitely buy a refill should you run out (although refills are not yet available).

Cathy Doll AA Cushion includes the highest quality of Ruby Cell Puff/Sponge which is actually thicker than most of the sponges/puffs I have encountered so far. This actually makes it easier for me to blend the product on to my Skin. It looks and feels really sturdy and it’s also very easy to clean.

AA stands for Automatic Aura. Both this and the cream claims to offer such technology for that brightening effect. Both of them also has Tea Tree Oil extract which helps reduce acne inflammation and helps minimize pores. Korean Herbs to deeply nourish your skin, reduce aging line and dissolve blemish. Titanium Dioxide to protect your skin from dullness and Vitamin C for whitening.

Cathy Doll AA Series have a very limited shade range. The AA Cushion comes in 3 shades only: #21 Light Beige, #22 Natural Beige & #23 Sand Beige. Mine is #21 and it’s actually a tad lighter than my skin tone. Further, it has a neutral undertone. If you are on NC 15-20ish this might be your best bet (take note the word, might be :P).

What I do love about this cushion is that it looks and feels as though it’s overflowing with product. When you dip your finger into the cushion, your finger will literally leave a mark. That’s how much product it contains. As for the consistency, this is actually a bit creamier than most of the cushions that I have. But it’s also a bit drier, perhaps due to the matte finish it provides which I will get to later.

I’m actually very impressed with the coverage that this cushion gives. With just a single layer, I was able to cover my pimple marks, my rednesses. and my undereye area. It didn’t totally cover the broken capillaries near my mouth so I had to re-apply where further coverage is needed. It’s definitely buildable, but I noticed that the more product you apply, the heavier it feels which is different compared to my other cushions. See most if not all of my cushion bases are very lightweight. This, though, is not one of them.

As the name says, this cushion is a matte powder. Therefore, once it sets, it gives your skin a flawless, matte finish. It’s more for oil control, which is rather impressive because not all cushions are geared for such purpose. Also, one thing to note is that, this product sets quite easily. So you need to work fast in terms of blending it. Oh and I’ve heard that this oxidizes to some. I’ve used this several times already but I haven’t experienced that so far.

This cushion already has SPF 50 PA+++ so I no longer need to apply a sunblock beforehand. Further, with its really matte, powder finish, if you have dry skin, setting it with a powder is no longer necessary. Since it’s geared towards oil control, this actually lasts for a good amount of time onto my skin. I apply this before I leave in the morning and by the time I got home (afternoon), my blush and contour is still very visible. To be quite honest, it’s hard to keep track how long this product lasts on my skin because I had to remove my makeup in the evening and the product was still there. That’s how long it lasted!

This also has a very distinctive scent. Compared to most of the cushions that I own, which often smells like lotions, or serums, this smells a bit minty? Perhaps due to the herbal ingredients. I know I’m bad at describing scents. That’s why I don’t review perfumes and such. Blech. It fades over time, of course, especially when you’re already blending it onto your skin. But still, if you have issues over scented makeups, then this may be something to take note of.

All in all, despite the scent and the feeling that this gives (this tends to feel heavy when you build it up like I said earlier), I still highly recommend this. If you’re looking for an affordable cushion that provides excellent coverage, geared for oil-control and stays the whole day, I highly suggest you grab this one. This will definitely not disappoint. Aside from the three things I mentioned, this also has added benefits, such as anti-acne, anti-aging, skin hydration, sun protection, etc. If you have a dry skin like me, you don’t even need to set it with powder. However, if your base tend to oxidize on you, just go for a shade lighter, since I’ve seen this oxidize on some of my co-bloggers.
