It’s Skin X Sesame Street Macaron Sugar Cushion Special Edition – Review, Photos & Swatches

Aaah.. BB/Foundation Cushions… who’s not in to Cushion products these days? Tell me.. who? 2016 was the year of cushion products. May it be a bb cream, cc cream, foundation, blush… we now even have a brow cushion! I don’t think that trend’s going away anytime soon. So when I saw this Macaron Sugar Cushion at Althea Korea, of course, the impulsive, shopaholic person in me, took over and the next thing I knew, I was already keying in my Paypal credentials. I mean, who wouldn’t fall head over heels with this product’s packaging? Srsly, come on!

–  Lovely Pink Dots creates a bright and live skin
–  Chill feeling and long lasting coverage

For their 10th year anniversary, It’s Skin decided to collaborate with Sesame Street featuring characters like Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, etc. They released an entire collection filled with skincare products, macaron lip balms, primers and of course their macaron sugar cushion. I wanted to get their serums too but I already have quite a few here so I decided to skip those and buy the one that really piqued my interest the most and that’s the Macaron Sugar Cushion.

I really do love the packaging of this cushion. Among my entire collection, this stands out due to it’s macaron-like packaging.  It comes in a soft pink, macaron-shaped compact, with Elmo’s face on top. The sponge is also cute because it has Elmo’s face printed all over it. The only downside, I guess, not sure if it’s about the packaging or about the product entirely, is that the cushion does not pop out. It’s not refillable so once you’re done with this, you’re done.

It’s Skin X Sesame Street Sugar Macaron Cushion is offered in two shades: #01 Light Vanilla and #02 Natural Vanilla. What I find unique about this compact is that, the cushion comes with those pink dots, which were said to have a brightening effect. It also has Sugar Cane extract to boost hydration and give our skin that glowing effect.

I have it in #02 Natural Vanilla. It’s still a bit lighter than my skin tone and it has a bit of a pink undertone, which can be easily corrected with a powder. The formula’s quite liquidy but very lightweight. It’s very easy to apply and blend using the sponge that’s included. One thing to note about the sponge, though, is that it’s quite thinner compared to the sponge I have encountered in some of my other cushion foundations.

Coverage is light to medium but still buildable. You will still need a concealer for some spots that needs to be covered such as acne/blemishes, dark under eye circles, broken capillaries, etc. But it works great for brightening and evening out your skintone.

Despite the hydration & the glowing factor that it offers, it does not look overly dewy on me. In fact, as you can see from the photo above, it looks matte. This was actually taken last year and back then my skin was really problematic. (I don’t know why I didn’t have a bare face photo. Apologies ) But with two layers of the cushion, I was able to cover my rednesses, bumps and my dark undereyes.

I have been using this cushion for days when I don’t require a lot of coverage and that’s usually whenever I run errands, spend time with friends, etc. Like I said, it’s very lightweight and it’s very comfortable to wear so it’s been my go-to ever since I got it. This cushion already has SPF 50+ PA+++ so I no longer need to wear sunblock underneath.

Just like most cushions, without primer, this lasts on me for 4 to 5 hours max. By that time the coverage begins to wear out gradually. Do take note though, that I have normal combination skin so this may be different for those of you who have oily skin. Also, as mentioned, I mostly wear this when I run errands (pay bills, buy groceries, etc) so that means, I’m still in air conditioned places — not under the direct heat of the sun. Just an FYI.

Overall, I highly recommend this cushion if you are looking for something that has a cute and unique packaging, (we all know that cushion compacts nowadays are coming out with the cutest of packagings so why not include this in your list?) along with extra benefits, such as brightening and hydration. Also, if you love Sesame Street, especially Elmo, then what are you waiting for? If you have a normal combination skin type like I do, go give this one a try. It’s still available in Althea and I suggest you grab it before it’s gone. I believe it’s a limited edition item.

Sure, it’s not refillable, and the shade selection is kinda limited, but once you’re done with this one you can definitely DYI your own concoction and reuse this compact. I know I would!

How about you?
