It is that time of year where I purchase curriculum for the year. We had a few new things to add to this year. I thought that instead of writing weekly homeschool posts of the things that we have done. I would share what we are doing with a few classes each week! That I think will benefit you more as it will give you ideas of things that you can do with your own students.
For art we will be learning about Art History. I bought a book called Vincent’s Starry Night and Other Stories to use for Art History. We read a chapter each week and I find an art project to go along with the things we read. We started our first week just this week, so I will have a post for you.
For History I started something new with my daughter. We are using All American History by Bright Ideas Press. We also just started this week. I will be sharing how we are using this as I plan to add in few things as we are studying. The first thing is my daughter had to pick out a Native American Tribe in the state of Wisconsin. She picked the Potawatomi Tribe to study. So far we have picked up a couple books and they will be ready for us when we get to that point. I also was really Excited to find that there was a Cultural Center. I gave the Cultural Center a call and I was transferred to the director. The guy was very amazing and sincere. He seemed very excited to share his heritage and culture with us. We will be going in a couple weeks, weather permitting. The director said that he would have someone around to show us around and ask questions. I am really excited about this. So I have already added in a field trip. This week we learned about Leaf Erickson. We haven’t really gone any farther. My daughter did pick out a explorer to research and study. The explorer is Sir Francis Drake. I am excited about this because we have a audio drama by Heirloom Audio Productions that we can incorporate and listen to.
My daughter is currently starting to use Elemental Science – Biology Logic Stage. We just started and she was absolutely excited to start using her microscope. She was so amazed at what she saw. I am so excited to begin working on something she is really interested in. I am not sure how much I will add in to this curriculum as there is a lot of hands on as we go through each week. I certainly will share some of the things we have done.
My son is currently studying the Ocean. We have done some experiments and I have posted them on instagram as well as the Facebook Page. I have been wanting to do some live videos on facebook with some of our experiments. Just haven’t really had the best option for them.
Another new thing for us is Brave Writer. I am using a literature and writing program. I am still trying to figure out how to put it all together. We didn’t get to our writing this week so I post poned that for next week. I did pick up a book for poetry so we could do some poetry study as well. I also started using First Language Lessons for the Well Trained mind with my son. I really like the layout in it. He grumbles but that’s ok because he will be able to remember things and recall at just the right pace with this curriculum.
