I have been looking for something to make for a few days and today, I pumped out a super cute and easy Door Hanger for Spring! One of my passions is to upcycle things when I can and this craft uses an old rubber boot that fit Bug for like 5 days. I really didn’t want to just toss them, but I couldn’t bear to part with them. I mean look! Everything about them screams Spring! Follow along as I show you how to make a rubber boot door hanger!

For this project you will need a few items:
Rubber boot ( don’t have one on hand? check the local thrift store. DO NOT buy a new set of boots for this project please!)
Florist Foam
Silk Flowers
Ribbon
Plastic Bunny Decoration
Before I show you this incredibly easy rubber boot door hanger tutorial, I want to tell you about the silk flowers. The ones used in this tutorial have been gathered for a long time now, and some are older than Bug. Since I do not know which ones came from where I will give you a little tip: silk flowers are available at the Dollar Tree. And you can Ship It To Your Local Dollar Tree Store For FREE*! ! They are perfect for use on the front door for those sporadic springtime rains! (meaning you won’t ruin flowers that cost upwards of $9.99 a bunch in some places.) And lucky for you, you can now shop at the dollar tree from where you sit! (Yea I know, when I found out, I got a little worried about my self-control as well )
Getting the most out of your rubber boot
Ok so before I even started this project, I was in love with Bug’s rubber boots. But you know how kids are, growing much too fast. She wore them maybe 1 month, and that is really being generous. So they have been sitting there a little lonely, waiting to be used. Then today it hit me! I DO have a use for them.
To begin, cut your florist foam to fit inside your rubber boot door hanger if it is too big. The one I am using here is one that was in a bin out in the weather, having already been used. If you need some Amazon has a great variety of the green stuff. Place the foam in the bottom of the rubber boot.
PRO tip:
To get the full use out of the foam, leave it longer. Cutting the foam too short will leave your flowers all limp and dangly on your rubber boot door hanger.
Adding Flowers To Your Rubber Boot Door Hanger
After you have decided on your colors, Its time to arrange your flowers. I like having a variety of lengths and sizes, to make it look like an actual plant arrangement on my front door. Start arranging them with height in mind.
You can make your rubber boot door hanger as full as you like. I added a branch of false ivy and a few glitter twigs to give some depth. This is where you should let your creative juices flow. But don’t stuff it. That will look silly.
PRO tip:
If you place the taller flowers in the back and start making them shorter as they get to what will be the front of your boot, it will look more natural. Also, insert FIRMLY into the foam. As mentioned above, if your foam is not tall, OR your flowers are not inserted firmly enough, things will look sloppy.
Finishing Touches
The last thing you are going to need is a way to hang this one of a kind rubber boot door hanger. The problem I had was the little rubber loop on the back of the boot that helps you pull it on isn’t very big, and it would look so funny hanging that high up. So I used pink ribbon and tied it thru the rubber boot loop and created a slipknot on the outside.
Uses For Your Rubber Boot Door Hanger
If you just don’t want to hang the rubber boot door hanger up on the front door (first why not? It’s adorable) then there are a few other options.
- You could use it as a centerpiece on the coffee table or mantle for Easter
- Use it on the front step for instant curb appeal
- Place your rubber boot door hanger in a well-chosen window
- Give it to someone as a gift
- Sell your rubber boot door hanger on offer up or craigslist
I think this will be part of this year’s annual Easter Party decor, which I am just beginning to start. So when it gets closer to the party (beginning of the month) I will put the plastic Easter bunny I found at the dollar tree right in the top of the rubber boot door hanger.
