Russian Piping Tips Review + Recipe

Something about the chilly air that makes baking seem like a must. When HyggeGoods reached out to see if we wanted to test out their Russian Piping Tips, I was so down. I will admit that I am not much of a baker, nor am I particularly great at decorating a cake, but I am really great at eating it!

Holy Huge Piping Tips!

Did you know that not all Piping tips are created equal? I didn’t. I thought you could go pick up some frosting (any kind) and a cake (because of the Baking Soda Chicken incident obviously) and pick up a bag and piping tip and get fantastic results. WRONG! They come in a huge assortment. But wait there is more. The Russian style of piping tips is special. They are freaking huge and the coupler is about the size of a half dollar coin.

Here we have the regular piping tip next to the extra big Russian style piping tip.

This set comes with 12 huge piping tips, a universal coupler for both single and tri-color frosting, 1 leaf tip (standard size, NOT huge) one tiny coupler for the leaf piping tip, 2 heavy duty (great quality) reasonable silicone piping bags and 20 throw away bags. It came packaged in a beautiful box (perfect for gift giving) and comes with a downloadable book after purchase.

Cream Cheese Frosting Doesn’t Hold Up

When we tested these out, I had a hankering for some brownies with cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting. Lucky me, I had a can of frosting and a box of mix. After the brownies had cooked and cooled we got to work on the frosting.

Even if this frosting doesn’t work with the new piping tips, it’s still soooo good!

I hate can frosting. I think it tastes like plastic. In order to make this can of cream cheese frosting both taste good and work for the new piping tips, I thought I would doctor it up a bit. What we ended up with tasted similar to Cinnabon on a brownie. Basically heaven in a cute little muffin liner.

To make your own frosting taste as good as mine, you will need:

  • 1 can of cream cheese frosting
  • 2 tbls powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbls cinnamon
  • 1 splash vanilla

Begin by putting all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl and turning on the mixer to slow. After you have incorporated all of the ingredients well, turn up the speed to med for 2 min. Put your frosting in the fridge to set.

PIN ME!

Even after all of the yummy doctoring, we did to the frosting, cream cheese was not meant for these piping tips. I believe its too soft and fluffy for it to work the right way. No matter, because it still shows each piping tips design.

The very first brownies I decorated were way too soft. This is when I discovered that your frosting needs to be firm!

A Few Tips For Your Piping Tips

A few things that we learned while we decorated our brownies using these awesome piping tips:

  1.  Firm frosting works way better to get your beautiful flowers to set.
  2. Pull up as you using these piping tips. The design looks great with a gentle upward lift as you apply pressure to the piping bag.
  3. You could decorate an entire Easter cake (the piping tips make flowers, and in a pastel color would look lovely for a holiday cake or cupcake set.) using just these tips.
  4. Practice. Life is short. You should have your cake (use your piping tips) and eat it too!

Overall, I would certainly purchase this for a few of my family members who love to cake decorate, or someone looking to learn. HyggeGoods has put a lot of effort into making this piping tip set both high quality and relatively easy to learn.  If you have a baker or a cake decorator on your shopping list, make sure you check this one out! The best part is that it ships fast and is included in Prime. You can find it at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077GTM9DL.

Have you ever used this style of piping tips? Do you have any tips for me? I would love to know how yours turned out!
