MY WINTER MORNING ROUTINE

IMAGE BED
5:30 AM – WAKE UP

I know this may seem crazy early for some of you, but I am extremely productive in the Morning. Once I am around people or the day starts going, I just can’t motivate myself to sit down and get stuff done and before I know it the day has come and gone. I am a lot less frazzled throughout the rest of the day when I have had a couple of hours to myself to really mentally prepare.

PUT ON ‘MORNING’ CLOTHES AND PUT UP HAIR

By morning clothes I do not mean my actual outfit I am going to wear for the day. I have learned over time that if I stay in my pajamas, whether or not I am moving around and doing things, I will be a whole lot less productive than I am if I just slip on some shorts and a t-shirt. Right now since it is a lot colder here I have been wearing some leggings and an oversized sweatshirt. Very middle school me. Even though it’s still really comfortable, it helps to get my mind out of bed a little more and wake me up.

CLEAN UP & DIFFUSE

After I am dressed, I do the normal things you would expect after waking up. Make the bed. Brush your teeth. And so on. While I’m brushing my teeth, I clean up any clothes that are on the floor, pick up any random papers that have been left out on my desk, straighten up the bathroom. Anything that is just starting to get a little bit messy. If I don’t do this in the morning, my room will look like a tornado went through it after a week. I also fill up my diffuser with water and pick some essential oils that I am going to diffuse just for the morning. All of this may seem like a lot to do but it probably only takes me about 5-10 minutes to get everything done.

PUT ON MASK OR TREATMENT

Just over the past couple of months I have added this to my Morning Routine. But even in that short time it definitely has made a difference. My skin looks better. I feel better. And it’s just kind of a nice mini pamper session to start out the day. This week I have either been using my purifying mask or a hydrating mask depending on what my skin seems like it needs that day.

6:00 AM – DO YOGA/MEDITATE

Once all of my basic get ready stuff is done, I either will lay out my mat and pull up a yoga video or just meditate for a while to get myself ready. I was never really one to go to yoga classes (and still am not really), but I am fine doing it all on my own. It gives me a way to actively take time for myself and to get my mind centered. If I don’t do this, I usually end up feeling out of wack or at the very least pretty spacey for the entire day.

6:20 AM – MAKE A POT OF TEA & WASH OFF MASK

If you don’t know this by now, I am an avid tea drinker. I don’t really like coffee and, as I have come to realize, caffeine has the opposite effect on me. But I love the taste, and simply holding a warm cup makes the entire morning a whole lot more relaxing.

6:30 AM – EMAILS & COMMENTS & SOCIAL MEDIA

I am one of the worst people when it comes to responding to people with electronics. It’s not that I’m avoiding them or ignoring the message. I just honestly have not seen it. But I really have tried to get better at responding to things, so part of my morning routine now includes this. I go through every social media platform slowly, so nothing slips through the cracks, and respond to everything new. I am still as not as good as I should be, but I am getting a lot better than I use to be.

7:00 AM – WORK

After everything is done and settled, I get down to work. This usually includes writing, editing photos, planning out posts, or finishing up the final bits. Or writing about exactly what I have been doing prior to this work session. I actually have to set an alarm for myself because the number of times I have simply let the time get away from me is infinite and before I know it, I’m late.

8:00 AM – BREAKFAST

Breakfast is usually pretty standard and rarely creative by any span of the imagination. Since it is winter, I have been mainly sticking to different oatmeal recipes. It’s warm. It’s filling. And it’s just what I need to get my butt in gear. After I finish eating, it’s up in the air as to what I do next. It all depends on what is on the roster for the day. But it usually involves getting ready, de-icing my car, and heading out into the world for the long day ahead.
