Why missing breakfast is a bad idea

You are very likely to have heard someone say Breakfast is the most important meal in a day, yet about only 44% of people take breakfast before work.

Skipping breakfast has been linked to a lot of health defects (High blood pressure, heart diseases, overweight among others) but what’s interesting is that not eating breakfast is actually killing your productivity as well.

Skipping breakfast has very significant effects on on your brain because it puts you in a long state of fasting throughout the day. This could badly affect your cognitive functions as it hinders your ability to remember and focus.

If you have been thinking skipping breakfast would make you lose weight then think twice. Numerous medical studies have proven that putting your body in fasting mode actually increases your insulin response and in turn causes your body to store more fat.

The fact that you need to eat breakfast does not mean that eat anything. Taking in a measurable amount of calories in the morning could actually help increase your short term memory. Taking too much calories would do you more harm than good because studies have proven that taking a heavy meal could leave you feeling drowsy and sluggish which could affect your memory and focus. You should target between 400 – 500 calories in your morning meal for optimal productivity.

You might also want to know when it is right to have your breakfast. I suggest you take your breakfast within an hour or two after you wake up.

To get great results, I recommend taking tea and bread with fried eggs, oatmeal with whole wheat bread or try slicing fruits onto a whole wheat toast. These foods are low in calories, rich in carbohydrates and proteins that help you stay active throughout the day.

Aside the productivity quirks, you need to know that it is by nature that you can feel hungry in the morning which is a good sign that you are still a human being. Don’t try to skip breakfast for anything.

I hope this helps you make the right decision to go back to taking breakfast.
