Bread Kunafa

Tags: bread kunafa milk

Kunafa is a traditional Arabic dessert using kunafa dough and cream cheese. Those who tasted it once can't forget the melt in mouth soft and cheesy delight. As i'm residing in Kerala it's hard to find the kunafa dough and cream cheese here; So i decided to make it's alternative version with bread. It is one of the easiest and cheat version of kunafa you ever had!!! And in no doubt the taste was promising😋😋😋
Ingredients:
  1. Bread slices-6
  2. Butter melted- 1/4 cup
  3. Milk-2 cup
  4. Corn flour-1/4 cup
  5. Cardamom powder- a generous pinch
  6. Sweetened condensed milk-1 can (Or use sugar)
  7. Butter-1 tsp
  8. Pistachio powdered-for garnishing
  9. Water- 1/4 cup
  10. Sugar-1/4 cup
  11. lemon juice-1 tsp
Preparation:
  • Mix corn flour with 1/4 cup of milk and keep aside.
  • Boil remaining milk; when it boils add condensed milk, and corn flour diluted milk.
  • Stir well and cook for few minutes until the milk starts thickening and looks like thick cream (don't over cook until hard or thickens well;As it get harden by time).
  • Add cardamom powder; give a nice stir and switch off the flame.
  • After cools down place it in fridge for 15 minutes.
  • Trim the edges of bread slices.
  • Powder the bread slices using a blender or by hand.
  • Add melted butter in to powdered bread crumbs and mix well.
  • Pre-heat the oven at 180 c.
  • In 8*8 length baking pan (or small)  grease with butter or place a parchment paper.
  • Above that pan; spread the bread crumbs and level it with a spoon by pressing well.
  • Above that layer spread the cooled cream mix  evenly. Place it in the pre-heated oven an bake for about 30-35 minutes until the top and edges gets nicely golden in color.
  • After cools down run a sharp knife through the edges and carefully remold in to a serving plate.
  • Boil water and sugar in a pan; boils for about 6-8 minutes and switch off the flame by adding lemon juice in to it.
  • Mix well and pour this hot syrup over the bread kunafa evenly.
  • Rest in fridge for about 30 minutes to chill.
  • Garnish on top with powdered pistachio and serve!!!
