Debt Help for Seniors

It is our estimate that approximately 45% of our clients are seniors that we assist with our Christian Debt reduction services. As the highest level of baby boomers begin to retire, debt help for seniors has increased four-fold. It is also very important that this generation understand how a Christian debt settlement program works, as most seniors have always paid their bills on time. However, like many of us, they have fallen into what we call the “debt trap,” whereby they make the minimum monthly payment or perhaps a little bit more than the minimum, however because of interest rates and/or fees, they do not seem to be getting anywhere as to lowing the principal balance that is owed to the creditors. In fact, many have fallen into collections. Therefore, our professional debt advisors take special care and time with this population.

In addition, it seems that seniors are reporting that they are the most verbally abused group in the country, especially when it comes to debt collectors. Unfortunately, I do not think this comes as a surprise to anybody. That is why we recommend that once seniors have done their research on a solid Christian debt management company that they then take the next step and review what the Better Business Bureau  (BBB) has to say about the company. The Better Business Bureau is a great independent way of looking to see how a company ranks compared to others. Although we are not members ourselves, we still maintain an A+ rating with them, because of the comments of members who have completed our program or that they see we do not have any complaints against us.

It is because of the unscrupulous actions of other companies in our industry that the BBB has elected to ban debt settlement companies from becoming members. However, the ranking is the most important aspect to your research and one that we highly recommend.

Therefore, when researching which Christian debt settlement (not debt consolidation) company you believe will work best for you we offer the following advice:

  • Look for a company that falls under the jurisdiction of some higher, regulatory body. Many states in the U.S. regulate debt management services, however if yours does not, it is especially important to look up the companies you are reviewing with the Better Business Bureau.
  • Ensure that the initial consultation with your debt help professional is free.
  • Find out in writing what the program is offering you.
  • Review your agreement when it arrives and ensure there are no hidden fees.
