How To Replace An Ohio Driver’s License | Ohio Driver’s License Replacement

When your License or ID card has lost or stolen, it simply means that you have lost both your ability to drive legally and your primary form of identification. But the good news is that the OH Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) allows Ohio driver’s license replacements.

It’s advisable that before replacing your lost or stolen drivers licenses in Ohio at a BMV branch, you visit your nearest police station to file a report for your lost or stolen drivers license. Although it is not required, but filling such report may help prevent identity theft and fraud.

How To Replace An Ohio Drivers License

Whenever your driver’s license is stolen, lost, damaged or destroyed, the best option is getting an Ohio driver’s license replacement.

In order for you to request a duplicate OH driver’s license or ID card, you have to do that in person at any local Ohio BMV office. Before proceeding to the office, bear in mind to fulfill these requirements:

1. Sign a statement that your original license was lost or stolen.

2. Present one primary or one secondary identification document.

3. Match the photograph on file at the Ohio BMV.

4. Match the five elements in the BMV system:

  • Legal name.
  • Date of birth.
  • Social Security Number.
  • US citizenship or legal presence.
  • Ohio residential address.

5. Pay a $24.50 DMV duplicate license fee.

NOTE: Method of payment for Ohio driver’s license replacement include cash, checks, money order, and vouchers such as county agency vouchers and intra-state agency vouchers.

Out-of-State and Military Ohio Driver’s License Replacement

If you are temporarily traveling out of the state or on leave as an active member of the military, you can apply for a Class D duplicate license while out of state.

All you have to do is just request an out of state renewal packet by either: Calling the department at (614) 752-7600. OR visit www.ohiobmv.com and click on “Contact BMV” to send an e-mail request to the Registrar.
