India is having a big moment in the Fashion and design industry right now by being declared the winner of “International Fashion Showcase Country Award” at London Fashion Week.  The ceremony was held at Somerset House, London and India beat 25 other nations that were also being judged. Five emerging designers: Antar–Agni by Ujjawal Dubey, Ikai by Ragini Ahuja, Ka-Sha by Karishma Shahani Khan, P.E.L.L.A by Priyanka Ella Lorena Lama and Kaleekal by Alan Alexander put together an exhibition of sustainable fashion called the ‘the Indian Pastoralists’.

All of them created looks for this particular theme conceived by IMG Reliance and were inspired by the various different ethnic lifestyles of India’s communities and the rich heritage of Indian textiles and handlooms. These five designers were selected based on their contemporary Indian aesthetics that offer a global appeal.

India Wins ‘Best Country Award’ At London Fashion Week

The 26 countries participating in the International Fashion Showcase at London Fashion Week were Austria, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Germany, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Netherlands, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Peru, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, Uruguay, and Zimbabwe.

“This victory showcases the true power of the young Indian designer mind that is breaking pre-conceived notions on Indian Fashion in the world. This puts Indian Fashion on the map like never before – I’ve been told that the entire London Fashion Week is buzzing about our installation and design talent,” – Jaspreet Chandok, Head of Fashion, IMG Reliance.
