Padmaavat: a short review from a Rajasthani

So, all of you who don’t know me and to all who do – Hi I am Neelima. I am from Jaipur, Rajasthan and have spent 20 years of my life there.

I think it will do justice if I say that I know what Rajasthani Culture is all about. I have seen everything from ghaghra to chuda, from pagdi to hookah and from bandhej to gota patti work. I have seen how many times a woman twirl at the beat of dholak and till where the ghoonghat covers the face if some unknown man enters the room.

My grandma is in her late 70s and she speaks  fluent Marwari so I probably know what the language is and what all these terms I just used mean (which most of you are going to Google).

Obviously, all of this is changing with time and it doesn’t happen that often.

Why I am telling you all this is because, guys, I just watched “Padmavati” (and yes I am not going to say Padmaavat just for the sake of Karni Sena and also it doesn’t speak to me) and I think Sanjay Leela Bhansali just dwelled into the Rajasthani culture and painted the entire movie with his own hands with the help of the best cast and team ever!

Deepika Padukone just nailed the shit out of Karni Sena with her majestic acting skills and expressions. Shahid Kapoor made sure that he keeps the Rajput in him alive till the very end with his classic dialogues, where he supposedly took help from his wife Mira Rajput.

Last but not least, just wanted to say that Alauddin Khilji is Ranveer Singh (you see what I did there).

Neelima is a student of Fashion Media Communication at Pearl Academy.
