How To Prepare for Hurricane Season

Are you prepared for the next big hurricane? With heavy rain and winds that can exceed 100 miles per hour, hurricanes are among nature’s most destructive events. It's important to have emergency survival items on hand if you live in an area that is frequent with hurricanes, in case you are faced with an emergency situation. We've compiled a suggested list of items that can be essential to survival during one of these major storms.

Emergency Lighting - Power lines can easily go out due to the high winds from a hurricane. Stray debris can also knock out power and damage the lines, which means you could be without electricity for a few days. Having wind up or solar power lights can help find your way to safety.

First Aid - Hurricanes can wreak havoc, causing various injuries due to flying debris, flooding, etc. It’s very important to have a fully stocked first aid kit on hand, for any emergency.

Emergency Food/Water - Natural disasters can cause a shortage in food supply. Keep some non-refrigerated, ready-to-eat food around as back ups in case the power goes out and your appliances are no longer working.

Shelter and Protection From The Elements - Hurricanes can destroy homes and lives. Make sure you are protected in case you need to evacuate your home or neighborhood. Shelter is important in any survival situation.
