A Rainbow of Fancy Colored Diamonds

Diamonds were not limited to a “colorless” Color. Because nowadays, the increasing popularity of fancy colored diamonds as an engagement ring have been recognized. Things, preferences, styles have changed as time goes by and jewelry lovers embraced this kind of modernization.

A diamond has a dazzling colors of the rainbow where you are free to choose what your heart desires. The current base colors are red, blue, pink, green, purple, violet, gray, brown, orange, yellow, black and fancy white. For the color intensities there are faint, very light, light, fancy light, fancy, fancy deep, fancy dark, fancy intense and fancy vivid. But when it comes to intensities, not all diamond colors have color intensities. An example is, there is no such color intensities as vivid brown diamonds and fancy dark yellow diamonds. In diamonds, you can measure value through its rarity. Colorless diamonds are the rarest therefore they are of the highest value.

Fancy colored diamonds are those who are outside the normal color range, a few of them are common but most of them are rare and are of the highest value. For instance, when the color of the diamond have a slight color differences, those differences has a large impact on its value. Diamonds with a distinct touch of any other tone are considered rare even in just light tones and weak saturation. As long as a color appear in a face-up position, they are called fancy colored diamonds.

Extremely rare diamonds are red, green and blue that has a medium to dark tones and on an average saturation. Extremely rare and are of high value are diamonds that are red or reddish in color. Gems in pure pink are more popular than those of purplish, orangey, brownish and grayish. Some of those stones that are pleasing to the eye are categorized by trade professionals as “rose colored”, and those stones that are purplish in color as “mauve” diamonds. Blue diamonds are caused by the presence of boron in the stone. The more boron it has in the stone, the deeper the blue.

Blue Diamonds

Are usually have a slight touch of gray, so they are as high as saturated as blue sapphires. They are also classified as extremely rare color of diamonds.

Green Diamonds

Obtained their color through the process in which radiation move carbon atoms from their normal positions in the crystal structure. Fancy green diamonds are light in shade and low in saturation. Their color is subtle with a grayish or brownish cast. Its tone is categorized as yellowish green. Natural colored green diamonds are extremely rare and most regarded with suspicion because they have a great possibility of treatment. It is why they are examined carefully in gemological laboratories.

Brown Diamonds

Are the earliest and most common fancy color of diamond. Australians fashioned them and considered them as jewelry. They even give them names such as “cognac” and “champagne.” They are ranged in tone from very light to very dark. Brown diamonds today are of medium price.

Yellow Diamonds

Are the second most common fancy color. Yellow diamonds are sometimes categorized as “canary.” It isn’t a proper grading term but is used t described them during trades.

Black Diamonds

Before does not have a high demand because black diamonds were mainly used for industrial purposes. They only gained their popularity when designers started using them in jewelry.

Fancy White Color Diamonds

Are of milky white color, they are sometimes cut to display bright and beautiful flashes of color.

Gray Diamonds

Also exist, the high level of hydrogen within the stone is believed to be the cause of their color.
