Fitness Trends Millennials Are Loving

While some may look at the year of one’s birth as a determiner of their generation, this is definitely not the most reliable indicator. You see, a millennial is not just an age group, it is a state of mind. Some of the features that are strongly represented when it comes to this demographic are a fact that they are multitaskers, tech-savvy, connected and value a work-life balance more than their predecessors. The most curious thing about it is a fact that this particular phenomenon penetrates literally every aspect of their lives. Their approach to Fitness is a perfect example of this and here are few trends that can more than support this claim.

1.      The Rise of Walking Apps

Even though walking is ‘greener’, healthier and cheaper option than Uber, Taxi or public transportation, Millennials have a hard time making themselves actually follow through with this. Luckily, as a generation of multitaskers, they have found a way to keep themselves animated while walking, with the cunning use of smartphone walking apps. This way, they can walk to work and at the same time monitor the distance they have crossed, the number of steps they have taken, their heart rate and a number of calories they have burned. Needless to say, apart from making their walk more interesting, seeing how they now have one more thing to focus on, in this way they are also managing to include technology into yet another part of their everyday.

2.      Wearable Technology

Speaking of tech-savvy trends, a generation that grew up on Star Trek and Star Wars always dreamed of having a wide array of gadgets in their personal arsenal. Now, while the generation Z (the so-called iGeneration) may not favor wearable technology so much, this particular trend still resounds strongly amongst the millennials. In other words, millennials simply feel more motivated to train while wearing a fitness tracker on their wrist, seeing how it gives them more insight on their overall athletic efforts so far. Aside from this, these accessories simply make one look and feel tech savvy, which is yet another thing that millennials feel strongly about.

3.      The Help of Supplementation

In the past, the issue of fitness supplementation was somewhat of a taboo topic. Today, however, the tables have finally turned. You see, with the adequate diet and training regimen, one can do a lot. Now, if you manage to squeeze just the right supplementation into the mix, this is where one starts to get some immediate results. One more thing you need to know about millennials is that they usually need instant gratification and recognition no matter what they do. Well, by including a best pre workout formula into their fitness routine, they can optimize their results in the shortest time span.

4.      Working Out in Small Groups

Even though highly individual, millennials feel most comfortable when training in small personal groups. First of all, when one has an agreement to always train with their friends, skipping the gym means also letting them down, which is not an easy thing to do. Nonetheless, these groups work the best when people with same or similar fitness goals form clusters. In this way, they can help each other out without looking for individual attention from the trainer, possibly even receiving appropriate assistance from their peers.

5.      Body Weight Training

Finally, this particular generation has shown a great interest into turning back towards the so-called body weight training. This particular trend consists of exercises such as pushups, pull-ups, squats and sit-ups. In other words, exercises that predate the bodybuilding era. Aside from these few we already mentioned, there are few other exercises that fall under this category, such as lunges and planks. The best thing about this is a fact that seeing how you work with the weight of your own body, the chance of getting injured is a minimal one, while the results are imminent. A clear and undeniable win-win scenario, one of the few there are.

In Conclusion

Even though the above mentioned five tips are great for virtually every generation, when it comes to millennials, this is where they truly shine. Sure, some may accuse them of making things too easy, but what’s wrong with finding a way to keep the next generation physically active in this sedentary day and age. This crossover between training and high-technology might have been just what was needed to make millennials flock back to the gyms. A perfect real-life example of this can be seen in the last year’s release of Pokémon GO. Although short-lived, this trend just demonstrated how easy it is to make the world of the 21st century go outdoors once more. All it needed was the right app.
