How long does a MACSlift take to perform?

This is one of seven Macslift (mini facelift) procedures performed at Utah Facial Plastics just last week. It’s a great procedure for lower face rejuvenation that can be done without general anesthesia. So how long does a MACSlift take to perform?

An average MACSlift procedure takes approximately 3-4 hours for either Dr. Scott Thompson or Dr. Douglas Henstrom, top facial plastic surgeons at Utah Facial Plastics. Surgical time may be longer if additional procedures are done at the same time. Popular procedures combined with MACSlift surgery include upper and/or lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), under-eye fat injections, and chin or pre-jowl implantation.

MACSlift procedures are typically performed in-office under local anesthetic. Patients are given Valium to help them relax, though they are awake. The sides of the face and neck and numb so patients can only feel pressure from the tugging during the procedure.

A head-wrap is placed around the head after surgery and can be taken off after 24 hours. The incisions are then cleaned twice a day with half hydrogen peroxide, half water, and then covered with an antibiotic ointment. The incisions come out in 3 stages and are completely removed by day 10. The average recovery time for MACSlift surgery is 1-2 weeks. Medications prescribed for healing include a steroid pack to help with the healing, antibiotic to prevent infection, and pain medication. It’s advised that patients avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil for two weeks prior and alcohol one week before and after.

The results are very natural and leave patients looking and feeling more refreshed and youthful. This procedure is perfect for patients who are primarily concerned with loose jowls and would like to restore the lower face. It can help with loose neck concerns as well. For patients with more extensive neck laxity, a facelift may be the first recommendation.
