Important Kybella Information

Utah Facial Plastics offers the latest surgical and non-surgical treatments for facial rejuvenation. One thing many patients come to our practice for is fullness under the chin or what many refer to as a “double chin”. Eliminating the fat in that area provides a more defined neck and jawline as long as the skin maintains reasonable elasticity. At Utah Facial Plastics, we offer both submental liposuction and Kybella, which is the non-surgical method for eliminating a double chin. For certain patients, one method is preferred over the other and some even do both. Here is some important Kybella information to know ahead of time.

What Is Kybella?

Kybella is the injectable solution that eliminates fat cells below the chin. It’s safe, effective and FDA approved. Kybella has many benefits including:

  • Non-surgical
  • Quick in-office treatment
  • No incisions, stitches or scarring
  • Permanent results
  • No anesthesia required
  • Minimal downtime
  • Little risk

Planning for your Kybella treatment

It’s best to come in for an initial consultation to discuss the options with your provider. In cases where there is a lot of fullness, submental liposuction may be recommended first and Kybella treatments can be used when healed to really clean up the area and provide the best result. For patients with mild to moderate fullness, a series of 2-4 Kybella treatments is typically with each spaced approximately 6 weeks apart. While full results do take time, once you’re done with all sessions the results are permanent.

It’s important to know there is a considerable amount of swelling following each injection that last approximately one week before you return to baseline. Results from each session are typically noticed around 4-6 weeks and during that time, you may experience mild numbness that is not permanent.
